Craft - Modifying weapons for size

A sword or axe or mace, etc... those I can see. The main thing there would be to modify the grip and alter the balance of the weapon.

Yeah but a small sized longsword still has less metal than does a medium sized one - so it is more than merely changing the grip and balance for pretty much any weapon.

Small sized weapons weigh less than medium sized ones which weigh less than large sized ones.

from SRD:

Weight: This column gives the weight of a Medium version of the weapon. Halve this number for Small weapons and double it for Large weapons.

The question wasn't about changing a small weapon into a medium of the same weapon, it was about changing (to use your example) a small longsword into a medium shortsword. That's actually an exact weight conversion; medium longswords are 4 pounds, while medium shortswords are 2 pounds.

True enough. I know that I allowed my players to turn a large handaxe into a medium battleaxe by replacing the handle. I didn't think about it at the time, but the weight is indeed the same :)

It sounds like if he wants to use it, then he's stuck with accepting a -2 penalty for an inappropriately sized weapon.

Or he could get the party mage who has Craft Arms & Armour to enchant it so it can change size.
