Crafting a MW item

Belares

First Post
I wanted to see if I am correct about this. I have craft (armorsmithing) total +8(+6 skill and +2 MW tools). I want to make a set of MW studded leather piece. I believe it is 250 sp and a DC 13 for making the armor then 1500 and DC 20 to make it master work. The question is 2 part. I start the process by making SL first and roll a 12 for a total of 20. You then take the total roll and multiply it by the intial Dc of 13 to get 260, which is more than the total of the price to make(250) so it takes a week and costs 84sp. Then I start to make it MW and it will be 1500sp to make not 1500 + 250 am I correct about this? Lets say I think this is correct. I roll a 1 (yikes) and lose 1/2 of the 1/3 it takes to make it (250sp) and 1 week worth of time. I then try again and roll a 2 (it at least is getting better) so I lose 1/2 of 1/3 again so I am losing now (500sp) and 2 weeks. By this time I am pretty peeved but I preservere. I try again and this (I kid you not) I get a 4 so I lose 250sp more and 1 more week. So I have spent 4 weeks and spent a total of 834sp. At this point the frustration is getting the better of me. Can I stop now and try to make it MW at a later date or do I keep trying in the vain hope of making it MW in a couple more weeks. Lets say that I even get a 20 on next roll for a total of 28 it is still only 560 which is a little more than 1/3 of the work needed to complete it so I would still have to get lucky to make in 2-4 more weeks. I know this is long but does this whole process sound accurate?

I have 3 things to say:
* Yes, you understand the process correctly
* You can set the work aside - but it won't be useable in any way (not even as non-mw) until you finish
* Please use paragraphs and whitespace!

I am not writing a novel or a essay. I am writing for help and opionions. Sorry if it offends you.

Thanks for the help I was pretty sure about the process. The only thing i was worried about can i keep it until I have more time and money to make it MW. Semms I cant but I do have a set of Studded leather hehe.

Don't try to make masterwork stuff until you get +10 and then just Take 10. (Unless it's an emergency).
Get an assistant. They can give you +2, and don't need to be highly skilled (one rank is enough for the assistant to Take 10 to get the DC for Aid Another.)

Whew don't I know it. I did not know you could take 10 on craft skills better re-read the take 10 & 20 rules again. So if lets say another player who has armorcrafting, but at a much lower skill can help me and get a +2 hunh? Then taking 10 with him would make it everytime but a bit slower. Thanks.

It is actually easier than that to get an assistant who can help you. Since Craft is not a "Trained Only" skill, and the DC to Aid Another is only 10, you can reliably have someone assist you who is untrained but does not have a negative intelligence modifier.
