This has probably been over before, but here goes. What does it actually cost to put a Magic Weapon Special Ability on a weapon? Say for example, I have a +1 longsword, and want to add Flaming on it. Does it cost, A) 8000gp (+1 plus Flaming = +2 bonus for base price), B) 6000gp (+2 base price minus +1 enchantment it already has), or C) 2000gp (The description says "Price +1 bonus"
The DMG is kind of vague about it, but there is an example sub note under table 7-9 that reads: "A +3 dagger that has the speed special ability (+4 modifier) is treated as a +7 dagger for pricing purposes and is priced at 98,000 gp." The section in bold leads me to believe that if I were to buy a +3 speed dagger, it would cost me 98,000 gp, but probably not to make it.
I'm confused. Any help would be great.
