Okay. I am not one who thinks it is fun or cool to thread crap on Dragon and Dungeon, because I think those magazines were good. But, I respect the right of others' opinions -- der_kluge, I am looking at you -- and would liek to start a thread for you to cartwheel and cheer over the demise of Paizo and Dragon and Dungeon. Anything else is threadcrapping and just plain not nice.

NOTE TO MODS: I am starting this thread ernestly. Not everyone likes Paizo or their mags. But it is a little irritating to see the threadcrapping in the other thread. Please let this one flourish, if it will, and direct threadcrappers to it, rather than allowing them to start a flamewar in the other.

Reynard respects me! He really respects me!

Seriously dude - whatever. I stopped caring about Dragon and Dungeon in '98 (?) when my subscription didn't show up in the mail like it was supposed to. After that subscription expired, I didn't renew.

I don't need all that stuff to make my game good. I'd rather see the magazine be about ideas, not full of useless crunch I can't use. Why couldn't Dragon actually include gaming related content like reviews - interviews with authors - a place for convention listings - actual useful stuff for gamers, not just a vehicle for delivering more game content. That's worthless - and is a waste of valuable magazine space, IMHO.

Given the plethora of "I hate Dragon" threads that I've seen on ENWorld in the past few years, I don't think I'm alone in this opinion.

Hey, preach on, man.

I mean, I don't agree with you, but my whole point was that I believe in equal time and the last thing we need is dissent turning into a flame war resulting in closed threads. I suspect, though, that the response will be somewhat similar to when a person dies: for a while yet, no one is going to want to say bad things out of respect or some notion of honor.

Nonetheless, I thought it was important to attempt to provide a level playing field.

Wow, you just named two the of the sections I have always considered the most useless part of Dragon magazine since I've been reading (about issue #25 or so).

While I consider the magazines to be great values with some very good things, I do have one thing I have disliked about the magazine in recent years. They have had an obsession about all things Greyhawk. A certain amount of regular Greyhawk content would be fine with me (even welcomed). However, the two magazines seem to have been "Greyhawk magazines" for the last several years.

I'm another that mourned the passing of Dragon years ago, when I no longer found it useful. I found Dungeon not quite to my taste, but not useless. It just wasn't enough for me to subscribe. I bought the occasional issue (e.g. Maure Castle, etc).

However, I'm optimistic about Paizo. I think their partnership with Necromancer Games is great, and I hope to see Paizo publishing lots of stuff that I might buy (stuff like Tegel Manor).

I'm not terribly worried about the "loss of access to non-OGL material," either. WotC has a good track record for allowing others to use that material if they ask permission, etc. Necromancer Games has been doing that for a long time.

Well, I'm not doing cartwheels over their demise, but I certainly don't care that they're dead. DRAGON was just useless crunch, more and more rules that I would never, ever use. DUNGEON was actually pretty cool, but I've already accumulated far more backissues than I'll ever use as adventure resources.

But the online thing WotC is planning---BAAAAARRRFFFF.

This really is not Paizo's doing. I'm sure they were happy to have the D&D magazine licences. NotC wanted its' reichs back.

Though the Downer comic was not a fave of mine.

Ditto. When this was announced, it brought to my mind those "Dungeon über
alles" folks that danced on Polyhedron's grave. Karma's a bitch, ain't it?
