D&D 5E Crazy house rule idea: One Level Exhaustion to take a Long Rest

Then what is sleep?
Sleep is separate from medititation. I base my rules on those in XGE. It is necessitated for most creatures about once every 24 hours to avoid accumulating exhaustion. Additionally, 8 hours sleep (or 4 trance) recovers a level of exhaustion and a hit die. Sleep is more easily broken than meditation, and can be resumed instead of restarted.

This is working extremely well in play. It comes out of experiments and play with more than a dozen different players over some 110 sessions. We started with PHB. Moved to Gritty Realism. And refined from there.
