Create Undead/Animate Dead

Just wondering about the stipulation in Animate Dead that a Cleric can only control 2HD of Undead per level whether this applies to Create Undead and Create Greater Undead--I'm using 3.0 PHB, btw, and the texts of the latter two spells make no mention of this.

The limit doesn't transfer to other spells, but Create Undead doesn't give you control over the creature you create. Whatever method you use to get that control will have its own limit.

You get 5HD / level of undead under your control. 4HD of those come from animate dead. The other 1HD comes from commanding undead, whether those are some random zombies in the dungeon, or that nasty new ghoul you just made with create undead. You still have to make a rebuke check to try to get that ghoul under your control.

That is all assuming you are a cleric. If you are a dread necromancer, then you get insanely broken numbers of undead under your control. scores of HD of undead. totally sick
