Creating a Bard, Need help

Very good suggestions so far.

Race
Be a Human, really. The extra skill point is like having a +2 Int for free. If not, choose Elf. Weapon proficiencies, skill bonuses are not bad, too. Don't multiclass, except for Sorcerer/Virtuoso.

Stats
Human/Halfelf (ranged): Str 11, Dex 17, Con 14, Int 16, Wis 13, Cha 17
Human/Halfelf (melee): Str 13, Dex 17, Con 14, Int 16, Wis 11, Cha 17
Elf (ranged): Str 11, Dex 17+2, Con 14-2, Int 16, Wis 13, Cha 17
Elf (melee): Str 13, Dex 14+2, Con 17-2, Int 16, Wis 11, Cha 17

Feats
Choose your combat feats wisely. Either Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot and Rapid Shot OR melee oriented feats.
For other feats consider Spell Focus (Enchantment), Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Extend Spell, Empower Spell, Disguise Spell, Skill Focus (Use Magic Device), Extra Spell.

Skills
Whatever you like. Depends on your party members.

Spells
Must have spells: Cure Light Wounds (burn your left spell slots on the end of the day), Harmony (MoF), Sleep, Suggestion, Greater Magic Weapon, Dispel Magic, Charm Monster, Hold Monster.
Nice to have spells: Mage Armor, Cure Moderate Wounds (you don't need a higher level cure spell, because you lack spells per day), Tongues, Cat's Grace, Glitterdust, Slow, Haste, Charm Person, Scrying, Clairaudience/Clairvoyance, Greater Sleep (BoEM).

Equipment
If you can get a mithral chain shirt, get it! 10% arcane spell failure is nothing! If you go melee, get a mithril buckler. Get a Cloak/Headband/whatever of Charisma, asap.

Nice thoughts...

Some more nice spells (love flash) are in Rituals&Relics. I like the proposals above. Problem with the bard: He tends to fill the gaps of the group. So you never know what you need next.
