Creating a Half Gold, Half Black Dragon

First Post
I wanted some fellow players input on this. I wanted to come up with a unique dragon for our Egyptian themed campaign that would serve as the end boss.

So is there a formula or correct way to go about mixing dragons? Also, any neat ideas for its breath weapon? I'm thinking superheated-corrosive gas.

I chose black and gold since they are total opposties. I wanted to do a Blue/Silver and a Red/Gold one too, but I dont exactly know where to start.

for the purpose of this, assume I'm making a Great Wyrm.

If their DNA is incompatible, I'll have to DM-Tog it lol

Black / Gold Dragon?

I'm your huckleberry...

I would assume this dragon is looking for power. Black dragons are evil, and gold dragons good, but both achieve their goals through maximal strength.

I'd look at half orc and half elf ancestory and notice how they always feel like outcasts. Now for a regular being, this is fine, they get sad and lonly, however a dragon (Possibly an epic dragon) feeling outcast, that certainly provides a reason for wanting to 'fit in'

Seeing as a half elf views humans as less inteligent, I would assume this dragon would start to feel the same way about ignorant beings. Let it dip into its pure heritage and fight against all forms of prejudice, then turn back to its evil heritage and gold dragon pride and make it think itself so great it needs to rule the other races (Like a pharo?)

Certianly the sort of back story you may want to look at.

Possibly give it the metamagic substitution of acid(wind) and fire(fire) showing how its multi-use elements progress it as a more unique breed.

Think about raising the save DC, as this isnt just a dragon, its a new unknown dragon, not to much +2 or so should cover it really.

If its breath is so special, look at some of the breath abilities in the draconomicon (I think it is) animate breath could be something interesting for a breath of its nature.

Hope some of this is useful

In my campaign world, I decided to cast aside much of the "canon" about dragons.

First, a dragon can be of any color in relation to its parents. In other words, a red dragon may lay eggs that hatch into red, blue, black or green, etc... hatchlings.

And a dragon's metallicity (if that's a word) is purely a function of its alignment, not the other way around. A red dragon becomes more metallic as it becomes less evil. When it is pure good, it is pure copper. When it is neutral, it will be pearlescent, but not metallic. As it shifts to evil, it becomes non-metallic entirely, (matte?) red.

The thing is, dragons LOVE metal. So they strive hard to be metallic or at least a little pearlescent. But since that requires doing good deeds, and MEANING them to be good, not just being "goody" for a moment or two, it is a very difficult thing for a dragon.

I would treat a multicolored dragon as something like a genetic "chimera" wherein the actual dna of two separate beings are mixed together (or, if you prefer, think of it as a siamese twin mix). Some parts of the dragon are red, some are black. Streaks, marbling, or just two almost separate halves. You could even have a separation of personality. At some points the red/copper personality would dominate, and at other times the black/silver would be prominent. As to which is good or evil, I leave it up to you...
