Creating new dragons!

I definitely think both, and I think all the new metallics and chromatics we're talking about so far should have this feature.

So, we have the SLAs, the spellcasting, improved grab and constrict, and the breath weapon for the aluminum dragon. What else do we need besides the flavor text?

Well, glancing through the basic dragons, land speed is usually 40-60ft, and burrowing
is 1/2 land speed (for those that burrow). But if we're going to say that these dragons all
get to burrow and are particularly adapted to it (as a replacement for flight), maybe we should give them 2/3 or 3/4 of their land speed. So I'm envisioning 40ft, 30ft burrow or 60ft, 40ft burrow. Which we would want for the aluminum dragon, I'm not sure. Maybe we should also give them tremorsense to 120ft and/or some ability to attack from underground. What do you think?

I'll write some flavor text as time allows...

According to The Slayer's Guide to Dragons, there are still a few color left for new chromatic dragons until we run dry of ideas. It's all based on possible crossbreeds:

Maroon: black/red
Indigo: Black/blue
Verdigris: black/green
Grey: black/white (homebrewed by me)
Purple: red/blue (already appeared in Dragon Compendium Vol. 1 with yellow and orange)
Russet: red/green
Pink: red/white
Aquamarine: blue/green
Azure: blue/white

Although aquamarine is also the name of a gemstone so I think it's better off for a gem dragon. For me blue+green=teal

Now on to breath weapons.

The traditional ones (acid, cold, electricity, fire, force, light, and sonic) have been used ad nauseam. The various poison and disease effects, along with the sand dragon's flaywind effect, and the faerie dragon's euphoria effect, are innovative. There's also a breath based on a spell, the prismatic dragon's prismatic spray breath weapon. Let's come up with some more, like color spray (for my opal dragon, which appropriately is multi-colored). What about an anti-magic breath weapon?

I'd rather not do an anti-magic breath, but I can think of some interesting and innovative.
Pretty much done with the Aluminum Dragon. What do we want to do next? Peridot?

Sure, let's go for the peridot dragon.

It's a gem dragon, so it has psionics. Compared to an emerald dragon, it's scales are yellower but still green. Peridot is historically the most valuable of the three aforementioned gemstones (along with malachite and tanzanite) so the peridot dragon should be the most powerful, possibly rivaling topaz or amethyst dragons. I missed the 2e emerald dragon's flamewalk ability, so this is a good chance to give it to another dragon.

If we go that route, a fire-based breath weapon seems to be in order. Because of the Gem dragon's elemental plane connections, we should connect it to the elemental plane of fire.

I would make its breath weapon a cone of magma, which deals 1d(age category) points of fire damage each round for 2 rounds (with Reflex halving the damage as usual).

As for power, I'd say Amethyst is a good power level. We could base it off that.
