Creativity, or lack thereof...

Sometimes, it is the existence of a surly dwarf or flighty elf that provides the contrast that makes an Infernal Heritage BattleSorc/Marshal Warforged PC stand out...

Technically, this was playing star wars. We needed a name for the NPC mechanic. I was eating raisinettes.

Ray has been in half a dozen different games since.

:)

Generally I don't mind if players want to rip off a character from somewhere else. Used to play with a guy in high school; EVERY one of his characters was an Aragorn clone (he at least changed the name occasionally; sometimes it was Menion Leah.)

But there are a couple of carbon copies that make me see red. Drizzt D'oh-turdden and Wolverweenie. AAARRRRRGGGHH! Hate hate hate hate hate. These are not allowed in my games. I won't bother with killing the character off; I just won't allow them.

I'm much more bothered by a lack of imagination within the game.

I think you mean "succeeding fabulously?" I admit, I'm a sucker for a sarcastic remark, but when a throwaway bit of sarcasm generates this much teapot tempest this fast, it becomes a work of genius.

Y'know, back in my day it took more than one person an hour mildly expressing disagreement to count as a tempest. Y'r standards be slippin'.

Saying things people will disagree with takes no genius. Saying something that makes them gasp with new enlightenment does.

and Wolverweenie.

My brother loved the character and his claws ... built him in Stormbringer no less... but he built a version that was eventually a full blown benevolent leader type building safe haven city of refugees --> what people said about characters being cool in play applies even to uber dupes.

Alternatively, it means you failed spectacularly to convey your use of sarcasm. In which case, one might think you would appreciate other posters drawing attention to this, since the other possibility would be that the original poster would genuinely take your advice to heart, and your moment of 'genius' gets someone kicked from their gaming group.
