D&D 3E/3.5 Creature Catalog 3.5 Overhaul Project

ok, i'm nearly done with the hive mother, that being the case. :)

that Int score gives it like 230 skill ranks, right? so far it only has the basic beholder skills - Hide, Intimidate, Knowledge (arcana), Listen, Search, Spot (and Surivival synergy bonus from high Search). for additional skills, i was considering Appraise, Bluff, Diplomacy, Sense Motive, and possibly even Spellcraft.

also on feats, it has: Alertness, Flyby attack, Improved Critical (bite), Improved Initiative, Iron Will, Leadership, Shot On The Run
we might want to consider any of the following, either as bonus feats, or to replace something above: Diehard, Endurance, Great Fortitude, Lightning Reflexes, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Weapon Focus (eye rays)

other significant changes i've made include bumping up the Dex to 14, Con to 22, and the natural armor up to +20. and some slight playing around with the powers, but nothing that will really affect what it does. :)

The basic beholder gets Alertness as a bonus feat, so it might be prudent to make this a bonus feat for the hive mother this as well. Also, Shot on the Run requires Dodge, Mobility, and Point Blank Shot as normal feats. Fly-by attack eliminates the need for Shot on the Run, just dropping the Shot on the Run feat altogether would be smart.
I'd vote for Great Fortitude as a normal feat, normal beholders have these. Since hive mothers are supposed to be the great rulers of beholders, I'd sugguest giving them ranks in the social skills- Bluff, Diplomacy, and Sense Motive.

I'd definitely go with Bluff, Diplomacy and Sense Motive. I'd also recommend Knowledge (Dungeoneering), as it is the leader of large underground communities. I'd also be tempted to give it Knowledge (religion) as well, as the leader of a beholder community would probably be knowledgeable in the tenets of the Great Mother.

For feats, I'd agree with Knight Otu in giving her Great Fortitude as a normal feat, Alertness as a bonus feat, and dropping Shot on the Run. After that, I'd go with Weapon Focus (eye rays).

I'd replace with Leadership with Persuasive or Negotiator (simply because I can't think of another monster that has Leadership, and it is sort of an optional feat).
