Creature Catalog now in Dragon Magazine

You are absolutely right. I didn't mean to scroll you down the ol' thread so fast. ;)

If the frost salamanders are more like those in the Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale games than those in the MM2, I'm all for converting 'em. (They were essentially ice versions of regular D&D salamanders, not more of a magical beast like the MM2 version). Another mud golem might be too repetitive, though.

agreed. and basic D&D frost salamanders are cold-living lizards, sorry. :) looks like those two are covered.

any preferences on the rest?

After re-examing the module, I think the following are "must haves":

Rakasta - look at the reaction these guys got when we converted 'em. Possibly the most popular conversion yet.

Magen, The Beast of Averoigne, Sun Brother, Amber Lotus Flower, Death Demon (Ostego), Grab Grass, Gremlin, Vampire Rose, Slime Worm

Alternates: Phantom, Killer Trees, Thoul, Living Statues, Rhagodessa, Robber Fly.

don't forget though, the magen has 4 stat blocks and thusly probably more flavor text than most. i'd say it should count as 2 or even 3 creatures (not 4, i doubt it would have enough flavor text for that). and the living statues have three types - i'd just as well leave them off for that reason alone.

True about that. The magen would definitely take up additional space.

On the flip side, several of these critters are extremely low level, so unless they have long flavor text, won't take up much space.

Truth on that. The plant creatures will likely be extremely short. Oh well, I will pitch it as you suggest, and we will see what happens. :)

OK, here are all the queries, ready to go. When you have some free time, read it over and let me know if you have any comments; additions, subtractions, etc.

I will be sending this out, finally, this evening.

You're desperately trying not to sell the alternates, aren't you? ;):p

I'm seeing no big problems. Mention sidebars for the prehistoric animals based on existing (dire) animals?

naw... those are more like "teasers" - if the editors read the ones we picked out for preference and don't like them (or, insider information tells them not to use it), then they have some others to look over to replace the ones they don't like. OR, they might see something in the alternates and say "hey, this is much better than the one you picked, go for it!" :)

besides, who wants to do a lot of explanation on something that's not going to get used. :p

If it's already sent, it's too late to correct the "sort ears" typo...

Moropus
Animal, CR 3
This looks like a horse with sort ears, but has short heavy claws with which it can dig and pull down tree limbs to feed. It can also defend itself with the claws and bite.
