Creature Collection Revised Opinions?

CC Revised is slightly disappointing book to me. Art is mostly the same, even most of the bad pics.

I've owned old CC for so long time, I have long ago time corrected typos and rule-slights for myself, so I don't really need so much out of this new book.
IMO it will be good book for those who haven't owned prior CC.

I didn't like those hag templates at all. My group finds ECL:s and some other things really illogical. We prefer the original version (minus those CR - aargh).

Races of the Scarred Lands appendix was good idea.

I didn't like Drendari removed. I really liked that picture.

As to another matter. Nightfall, despite what I priorly said about Player's books, after reading them through I find them really interesting and great books. I have some issues with game mechanics and editing, but I take back that 'boring' part.

I fixed a few things I used, like wood golems and ratmen, but I have never found the time to tweak everything I might use.

To each their own, I guess. I dig them and think they make a lot more sense with the background given for hags than the original hags do. But then, I guess ECL is something I don't consider too strongly, as I never intend to let a player play a hag.

Concur. Assuming everyone was going to grab the screen was a bad call. Really, they sort of needed to have this in SLCS: Ghelspad.

Zelda,

Well glad you revised your opinion then. ;) I know I'm very happy with the two I own and I can't wait for the next three.

Scribe and bekkilyn,

Believe me when I say that when I Pimp, I do with far more style and profile. ;)

Psion,

Did you ever get to Shelzar? Think perhaps that might help some. (Though I will agree with at least of setting books, Penumbral Pentagon, didn't do much for me. And that's sad)

My only comments regarding the races and CC Revised, I'm glad they put in the Termana races as well. (I think the reason they didn't add more to the SLCS: Ghelspad was probably because of space limitations.)

Hags and their ELCs, I firmly believe that unless a player WANTS to be a Hag, I will not use them on players. Other races ELCs, I felt were fine. Regarding Drendari being removed, it made sense to me since I prefer to keep my gods and monsters separate. :) Even though I will agree, that was a great pic of her.

Anyway folks, looking forward to September and October cause then with the PGs, and the newest VW: Secrets of the Assathi, there's a lot to enjoy. (Oh yeah, almost forgot, SLCS:Termana too. ;) )

"Get to?" Do you mean "get". Yeah, I have it. It's okay, but let's just put it this way: in contrast with last year's books, of this years books, I only find that Hornsaw was of any value to me being someone who is not currently running a game in the Scarred Lands. The others were okay and would be useful if I was running a game in that area, but weren't anything that made me WANT to run a game in that area. Which, to me, is the hallmark of a good setting supplement.

I'd agree with you, Psion... Scarred Lands material slipped in quality over the last year. R&R II was both better and much much worse then the original. Though I think Calastia was a shining star, Shelzar was unimaginative and Penumbral Pentagon just wasn't useful. I think it's one of the reasons why S&SS didn't have as strong of a presence in the Ennies this year. Hornsaw was an admirable book and I have yet to see Blood Bayou. But I think things are picking up this quarter. From what I've seen of the Player's Guides these things are excellent with an all-star cast. Bruce Baugh, Ethan Skemp, C.A. Suliemen, James Malizewski, and others that are slipping my mind right now. SLCS: Termana looks to be an amazing book that might just surpass Ghelspad.

Now, I'm admittedly biased. These few months will be debuting my work for the Scarred Lands. But it's let me see the emerging line-up and I think things are looking up for the Scarred Lands. And the trend is, while keeping details of the setting, to increase general utility of the books as well. Of what is out, I think the Player's Guide show that philosophy best of all.

All of the above have the usual IMO, YMMV disclaimers.

Yes I meant get. *sighs* stupid grammatical error. But I do understand your feelings. I guess for me, I enjoyed Shelzar cause I was in it. ;)

Werner, well you have every right to feel that your book is better cause...well it is. ;) But don't think that means I don't think PG: Rangers and Rogues isn't awesome either. In any case we'll see how the last quarter turns out...and then with 2004, what else might spring up.

But if you wanted to do that way, I'd say they would go one size larger than normal.

I said that they are odd cases. ;)

By the way, apart from the three "monsters" already mentioned, one more is left out: the Dragonman. Since it was basically a "half-dragon on steroids", it is understandable. Also, the lard worms and Tokal tribesmen have been reduced to sidebars.

And I still think the two giants are too weak compared to the MM ones for their size. :D

Well no idea whether they are or not, but I feel you don't need stronger giants, just ones you can fight. ;) But I am glad they did toss Dragonman. Half dragon is better overall.

Anubus,

I don't believe there is any plans to revised CC2. But I could be wrong.
