The Crimson Menagerie
Setting:
Forgotten Realms, Plateau of Thay. Mirrisun Bloodtwist's Menagerie.
Premise:
Mirrisun Bloodtwist, an up and coming Tharchon and Warper, has for many decades held a small citadel in which he nurtures his own plots, his own amusements and his own menagerie. Begun approximately thirty years prior, Mirrisun seemed intent on wringing the secrets of Natural Shapechange from lycanthropes and the fey, in hope of becoming a true Master of Substance.
What has evolved is a vast complex, populated by thousands of slaves who are employed in the care and maintenance of hundreds of creatures captured by the Tharchon's Hunters over the years. However, of those captured, few are shapeshifters at all, his interests having explanded or (as is barely thought even in the minds of his slaves) senility has caused his focus to wander.
From the Pits, where beasts are pitted against one another as Champions, to the Maze where the beasts are stored when not in use, the Crimson Menagerie is a structure built on the sweat and blood of thousands of slaves and the fear and sufferage of the beasts trapped within.
Who would help creatures such as these, normally preyed upon by adventurers out in the world? Who would come to the aid of creatures who, in some cases, are reviled as accidents of magic or treasured simply for their internal organs and mystical properties? Who would find such beaten down and abused creatures worth saving?
Themselves, I would think.
Rules:
The PC's are the creatures within the Menagerie, employing the Monster Manuals, Manual of the Planes and Savage Species Supplements, the players may make characters up to EL 8. If not using the FR Character Generation Engine, EL is figured by CR + HD = EL. For example: An adult Minotaur is 6HD and CR 2 and that is EL 8. A Copper Wyrmling is CR 3 and HD 5 so the EL is 8.
Certain subtypes are not allowed: Ooze, Undead, Psionic*, Abberations and Constructs. Monstrous, Magical, Humanoid, Dragon, Fiend, Celestial, Shapechanger, Fey, Outsider, Elemental types are all good. A character that falls into an allowed subtype that has naturally-occuring psionic-like or spell-like abilities that are alternately considered psionic are alright to play. However, one thing to consider will be that you will have to work together and non-corporeal, non-humanoid/humanoid-interest types will have a hard time relating to or cooperating in any fashion. Normal PC races are NOT allowed: Mirrisun has NO interest in Elves and Dwarves and Halflings to study or to pit against one another in battle.
He finds them all a bit lackluster.
Alignment will not be used except for class considerations. If a character is un-classed and is therefore progressing as whatever type of creature they are, alignment will not be used. Behavior will determine how interaction will be handled and how others/NPC's will perceive the characters.
This game is to begin in mid to end of July and is located in Sandy Springs/Atlanta Georgia.
