Creeping Doom

Man-thing

First Post
Is it true that any level of DR will completely negate the usefulness of Creeping Doom. I've seen a couple of PRCs and Feats that offer low DR 1/-- at early levels.

I guess my concern is a 7th Barbarian (3.5) will be able to waltz through a Creeping Doom cast by a 13th level Druid. (I always throught creeping doom was one of the most devasting spells in 1st and 2nd e.) Do others find this unbalancing or is it just me.

DR

You are right, DR negates Creeping Doom which summons creatures to attack enemies. Each incect does 1 damage and the attack separately from eachother.

Creeping Doom will be modified in 3.5 (I think). It will do set amount of damage per round on people in it's radius, not instant 1k like now. We'll just have to wait and see whether it will still be negated by DR.

Thanks to the new Swarm type in 3.5e, the effect of a Creeping Doom might now conform to the statistics of a swarm. A swarm would now do automatic damage depending on its HD. A weak swarm would do 1d6 damage. A more powerful swarm could do up to 4d6, plus special attacks such as acid, poison, etc. DR would protect against this damage: DR 5/- means that you have a 5 in 6 chance of not taking any damage from a weak (1d6 damage) swarm, but there is a 1 in 6 chance that you would take 1 point.

There might not even be a need for separate Creeping Doom and Summon Swarm spells as swarms could now be summoned by the Summon Nature's Ally range of spells.
