D&D 5E criteria for new races to be added to the PHB

Just out of curiousity would you be willing to trade Gnomes with Aasimar and Goliaths taking the Gnomes slot.

Personally, I think there are too many races in the core rules, and would loose gnomes, dragonborn and tieflings.

But if I had to add something in in order to boot gnomes out I'd take the Aasimar out of that lot. If we gotta have tieflings we may as well have thier opposite number as well.

Just curious why do some folks hate Gnomes that much?

Generally, and I'm being completely transparent, I'm fairly sure it's just a long-standing meme borne of frustration over Gnome optimization, similarity to Halflings, and general cancer.

Gnomes are like a tumor, that grows on Paladins, but only Paladins with rapiers.

One must not reveal the meme, thus its essence would fail.

Why would Gnomes and Halfling optimization bother folks?

The grief against gnomes is probably due to their whole lack of an identity for years, so people tried everything. Unfortunately, "The joke race" was one of them and was used a lot so they've got that baggage to 'em

Thankfully nowerdays they're the "Actually competent Tinker race", given that tinker gnomes are not actual gnomes

This.

Tiax rules.

But not this. Mechanically 5e gnomes are weak and have no interesting special abilities.

It's not that people hate gnomes, but, rather, they just don't feature anywhere in the game. There are (outside of maybe dragonlance) no great gnome societies. They have no real niche. They are just such an afterthought.

Me, I'd rather dump dwarves, elves and halflings out of the PHB and get a breath of fresh air into the game. Never going to happen, but, good grief, there is so much more to fantasy than Tolkien.
