Critical Role Critical Role Season 4 DM says encounters will not be balanced.

darjr

I crit!
Brennan Lee Mulligan says, for CR4, the encounters won’t be balanced to the characters. They are what they are and the players can meet them as is. TPKs are a distinct possibility. This will be interesting. You Want A Blood Bath

Also the dice will fall where they may. Death of PCs isn’t a guarantee but their lives are not either.

Makes sense. With three different tables, even if one or two wipe out, there is still story continuity with the third table. That's an elegant solution for the problem of how to continue a story after at TPK.

I’ve not played in a West Marches style campaign but from what I understand this would kind of align with that. The PCs can decide to tackle a challenge that is way over their heads and there’s not going to a scaling down to make that challenge within their level. Sounds good to me.

Oh dear. I want fun, games night D&D, not heavy, serious D&D. Age of Umbra killed off almost everyone, and it was bleak, man. And when characters died, the player was permanently out of the campaign.

Nothing says fun like "oh, your character died? Take your dice and go home! No more D&D for you!"
