Cross Class feat ability borrowing wildshape

I thought they already included Shifters in MM as a playable race? Or am I missing your point?

yes, in mm, but not as a full race writeup. remember that the difference is it's a monster which can be played as a race; not a race.

With the difference in design for both now, we'll see more down the road to describe shifter as a real "core race"

Also keep in mind that the 4E druid is likely to use the shapeshifting mechanics from the PHII. IIRC, those don't really include a "small, stealthy" option.
Which seemed a glaring oversight, but not an intentional design "feature". I might be wrong, but I hope the idea of a reconnaissance/stealth form is not too far off for WotC.

I actually wote up a series of feats for the PHBII "shapeshift" druid that would grant new forms -- I think I went with "Stealthy Stalker", which was a rat or cat or some similar thing (you shrink to Tiny, bonus to dexterity, and... Eh, I can't remember wtihout going to look it up). Another was the Aquatic form, which had Flier as a prereq and let you become a dolphin or otter or some similar air-breathing swimmer -- granted a swim speed, con bonus, and the ability to hold your breath a lot longer (10x, I think, to "one minute per point of constitution").

I think I wrote up some others that aligned to the other forms, but I don't remember what they were except for the Massive Beast form, which gave a trample attack and turned you Huge, to represent an elephant or large sauropod dinosaur.

Sounds familiar. I think I made very similar feats. Did you (unlike me) ever use them in play?

Any chance you could post 'em somewhere? I've got a PHII druid in my campaign that's been bugging me for something similar.

I never used them, no. It was sort of an intellectual exercise.

I can post them if you like, I guess... I don't even remember if they're still on my computer at home, though, and they're very much rough drafts only; not really tested or balanced yet.

For the "sneaky mode" shape, I'd just say it's a feat that lets them turn into a Tiny (or perhaps -1 size category) creature with +4 Dex and a Move Silently bonus (+2 probably), and a 1d3 bite. If they're 4th level or higher, they also get a climb speed equal to half their ground speed.

Doubt it. At least Races and Classes suggested that the way they were making the Druid was with each "form" as a different power. So wildshape isn't a power or class feature, rather "Cat Form" is a power and might be able to be picked up by other classes.

Animagi, here we come...;)

I had a thought on this the other day, ask you druid if they want to swap summon nature ally to be able to turn into equivalent forms styled in PHB II.

e.g.

Summon Nature Ally I at 1st level

Offer dire rat and eagle forms for the player that grant a size reduction, and a swim/climb speed for rat and fly speed for eagle , give a lil dex bonus and maybe a spot bonus while in eagle form with those eagle eyes. Talior it to your taste. But dont give him any extraordinary like abilities i.e. no disease bite on the rat.

The bonus is you no longer need to handle a summoned nature ally in combat, and your druid is happy playing in his new forms.
