Crossroads of Twilight

I'm really looking forward to it. Any word on an exact release date?

January 7, officially.

I'm most interested in seeing how the events of the last book play out.

Especially the events at the end of the book, which could have major ramifications. To get us off the subject of Egwene, here's some things I'd love to see:

1) Progress regarding the White Tower split.
2) Black Tower conflict (Logain's faction versus Taim's faction).
3) Return of Moiraine, or at least some more information.
4) Demandred reveals himself.

I hope that Jordan doesn't get too bogged down with describing conflicts between the many armies that are roaming around (Rand's forces, Shaido, Borderlanders, Whitecloaks, Seanchan, etc.) I prefer the more personal plotlines.

Crossroads of Twilight was released in Britain a few weeks ago. Looks like it's getting fairly lukewarm reviews.

Several of her extended absences were caused by the Hall wanting to make her Amyrlin. That's definitely mentioned at some point.

That's why I said she'd probably refuse it.

No disagreement here. That's precisely why I've never quite trusted her. And while I'm sure she will be one the greatest Amyrlins in history (after all, she's from the Two Rivers, which means she's ubermensch in Jordan's world), I don't know if I've seen the qualities first hand. That whole "martial law" thing was clever, I guess.

You mean the part in PoD where she got them to declare war on Elaida, and as a result managed to put an end to Romanda and Lelaine's scheming? Yes, that was very good, but remember she's getting a lot of good advice from Suian too. I think the way things are shaping up, I don't think Rand's going to trust her much if she does win in the end (and I think she will; Elaida's pretty much proven at this point she's completely incompetant.)

I just wish half the (mostly female) characters would get a clue and stop imaging that they know what is best for Rand and the world. I swear, apart from Min and Birgitte, and maybe Faile and Aviendha and some Wise Women, there are no female characters in that book I do not despise for their arrogance and stupidity. Tuon looks to have promise so far as well, but I am not too optimistic.
It does not help either that the male characters have about as much spine as the average jellyfish, although Rand has gotten better in time.

I just wanted to resurrect this old thread in light of new data from book 10. To the point: Egwene has done nothing to improve my low opinion of her.
My main complaint pertains to her reaction when she hears that there are Aes Sedai following Rand. She immediately assumes the worst and concludes that he must have used Compulsion on them. Wha??? He's the Dragon Reborn, and Ta'veren to boot, and you think the only way a Sister would follow him is through Compulsion? Egwene is more arrogant and myopic than I had previously thought.
The only dumber thing she could have done was willfully put herself in great danger and get herself captured like a bumbling retard...oh wait, she did that too!

It wasn't all that long ago bookwise that she was the love of his life and they were going to marry and spend forever in happy sheepherder bliss. Now she acts like he is somebody she has never met before. Yes they have both changed but for pete's sake just ask him? It's not like she couldn't get a answer from him on what's going on, yes she can't sneak off and find him, but she can sneak off to attack the chains on her own. And why the heck won't people talk to each other, any number of her "best friends" could clue her in. Still she is smarter than Perrin, he is willing to sell his soul to rescue his wife but not willing to go find his best friend to borrow a army or even get some freaking food. I mean good grief, he can travel anywhere in the world but he has to find a close town to buy food in. Couldn't Berelain just jump back to Mayene, get some supplies and jump back the next day or why not just send a wise woman back to Cairhien to get food and while she is there she could pick up one of the largest armies the world has ever seen that just happen to be laying around doing nothing. If he is that desperate to save his wife why not make the logical choice. It's not his fault he's written as a moron but he sure is one.
