James Introcaso begins work on Crows! A dungeon crawler RPG.

Today’s a big for MCDM! Thanks to everyone who made the Crack the Sun crowdfunding campaign a success! It’s gonna be magic! As of today, I’m no longer the Lead Designer of Draw Steel products, and I’m stepping into the role of Game Director of our next RPG, Crows. I can’t wait to play it with you.

Interesting! I really liked what they did with Draw Steel and the community engagement. I say that even though on reflection, I think the game is probably not for me. My impression, which may be wrong, is that it’s very tactical almost skirmish war game-like. But I am enjoying their success and really curious to see how this one develops, especially if it’s a bit more grounded.

I’m in the same boat. I do like some things in it too. I’ve got the core behind me and am going to read it and maybe run a game. But I can tell already it isn’t for me.

Even if Crows turns out to not be for me also, I’m looking forward to the process and getting to watch and maybe participate.

I feel like Draw Steel could be for me, or at least the gamer I was, but I don't necessarily want to run the game. My priorities as a GM and player have shifted since COVID to games that will likely see play with my partner at the table: e.g., Fabula Ultima, Dragonbane, Outgunned Adventure, etc.

Yeah, it's always nice to see the design process at work. Colville has talked about dungeon-crawlers before on his channel. I'm curious how Introcaso will approach designing one.
 

I wonder how profitable the game design aspect of Draw Steel has been for them. It seem to have helped to keep their patreon subscriptions high.

Im very interested to see more! There’s a lot of stuff I really like about DS! but like @Aldarc im not sure if I’m as into GMing it as I thought (mainly the amount of work to make interesting combats). I wonder if this is going to take any of the tactical combat play down into attrition crawling or be something totally new.
