Crusade, Babylon 5 spin-off?

I read those scripts online a while back, too. They also had a really great one with Bester making an appearance, and a surprise cameo at the end of that ep. Good stuff.

Care to post a link to those scripts? Was the cameo Garabaldi?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall that all the elder civilizations united against the Shadow (another elder civilization), but only as a pretext to have all the elder civilizations leave the galaxy to the younger races?

If so, what are the Shadow so upset about? They didn't lose the war, it was a default. Or were they upset before the big 'deus ex'?

Spoilers for B5:

It was originally a big fight of the Vorlons vs. the Shadows vs. all the other remaining First Ones. In the end, the only resolution was for all the first ones to leave the galaxy.

When they did, though, the Shadows screwed over their servant races. They blew up Z'ha'dum, destroying most of their technology and the world the Drakh had called home for so long. Naturally, the Drakh blame Sheridan, the Alliance and Earth for this, because it couldn't possibly be the Shadow's fault, could it? ;)

Huh. And I just figured out how to do the spoiler thing. Cool. May as well use this post to test it out.

Anyway...

Not quite how it happened. What caused Z'ha'dum to blow up was a booby trap. When Sheridan and Co. got there, the Drakh were already in the midst of evacuating the planet. They clearly had no intention of staying there. But unfortunately for them, Leeta purposefully set off a booby trap which caused Z'ha'dum to go a little bit earlier then they expected, though they still got away in time (Leeta did this to spite Bester, because they were looking for a cure for his telepath girlfriend, who was rewired by the Shadows to operate as the CPU for a Shadow vessel).

The Drakh are pissed at Sheridan and Co., but it has more to do with them driving away the Shadows then anything else. Also, they're now looking to set themselves up as the Top Dog in the galaxy (As has been pointed out in the show, they once were the servants and now seek to be the masters, themselves).

If they were still online I would. Sorry. Though you might want to check out B5 message boards and Newsgroups. There're undoubtedly B5 fans out there who still have the scripts sitting in their hard drives. I knew of one guy, at least, who used to pass copies of the scripts around.

Was the cameo Garabaldi?

Yes

I'm just having TO much fun with this spoiler thing. :D

Never mind, i figured out how to read the spoiler things. My bad. Someone care to post the plot of the crusade episode with Bester?

It was either take up TNT's offer, or no season five. Karma my left... yeah.
It is when you sold your soul to the devil. :p If I were in JMS's shoes, I would have at least go out with a big bang at the end of Season Four, then disappear, and when the syndicated reruns start generating more fan interest, pitch it to major production company for a full-feature film.

Isn't that what they did with Star Trek: The Original Series, aired for only three seasons?

The thing is that (at least according to JMS himself), he had absolutely no problem with TNT for the fifth season of Babylon 5. They were hands-off, and let him do what had worked so well for the past four seasons.

However, when Crusade started up, some people higher up in the hierarchy (from TNT HQ in Atlanta, rather than their LA division) started trying to mess with things. JMS is not good at compromises, and he really did not agree with the things those people were trying to do to "his" show. So, he tried compromising at first (that's the stuff that lead to the uniform changes and stuff, and the fistfight at the start of the first aired episode) but eventually it just became too much. He told them, "This is not the show I want to do. Either let me do things my way, or I leave." They didn't let him do things his way, so he left, and the show was cancelled.

There was one episode that crystalized some of the things that I loved about JMS stuff vs the trek-drek. I forget the episode name, but they had to free a slave on this one planet. But that has nothing to do with the good bit. It turns out that the Archeologist had turned in a report to Cpt. Gideon on a used data crystal, since he's such a tightwad. However this data crystal turned out to be one he had put some alien porn movies on "Snow White and the Seven Pak'Mra", etc... and everytime some character or Characters (in one memorable scene) they would stare at it puzzled and their head would start tilting towards their shoulder. Gideon used it to torment the archeologist character throughout the episode, until they needed a "distraction".

I simply can not believe that they would EVER even admit the existance of pornography in TNG series, never mind cross species porn. I mean come on if you had access to the holodeck what would most men use it for...
