Staffan said:JMS is not good at compromises, and he really did not agree with the things those people were trying to do to "his" show. So, he tried compromising at first (that's the stuff that lead to the uniform changes and stuff, and the fistfight at the start of the first aired episode) but eventually it just became too much. He told them, "This is not the show I want to do. Either let me do things my way, or I leave." They didn't let him do things his way, so he left, and the show was cancelled.
You know, this is one of the reasons I really look up to JMS. In an industry where you're basically living a crap shoot, and every two-bit executive suit thinks they know how to write a show better than the creator, it takes a lot of balls to stand up to them. Even more so to actually carry through.
Amusingly, a similar thing happened with Jeremiah, and he left.
