Cry Havoc for 3.5 and other stuff

First Post
I've been away from roleplaying for a little over a year. I became dis-enchanted with the whole 3.5 biz and then life got in the way yadda yadda.
Anyway I miss my friends and want to give D&D another shot, I bought the 3.5 players handbook and skimmed it. I've been playing wargames (DBM mostly) for the past year and thought the perfect gateway back to D&D might be Cry Havoc.
From a wargame stand point how does it play?
From a D&D stand point how does it play?
Are there better wargame/ D&D rules sets?
Since I haven't read it and I'm guessing none of my friends own it should we make the move to 3.5?
If we do, how heavily will Cry Havoc need to be modified to fit the 3.5 rules?
Thanks and wish me luck getting my game back

i like Cry Havoc. but....

i came from a wargaming background when i started D&D roleplaying.

for the newer rules, i'd say just read the SRD and find out if you like it. it [ 3.11ed for workgroups (what most call 3.5ed) is from 2000ed (again what most here call 3ed) ] isn't as different as 2edADnD was from 1edADnD.

Get Fields of Blood instead. It is a great way to continue wargaming and includes detailed guidelines for running realms with PCs as rulers. It's for good sized armies and can be scaled down pretty easily for smaller units if you need it to be. Overall, it's the best thing for my campaign and can be used as a war game as well. From one wargamer to another, this is the better product IMO.
