Cryptic T-shirt at GenCon - Help, it's slowly driving me insane

If it was meant to be "mm mmm good" for the can of soup, wouldn't they have put "SOUP" on the can, and not the word "STEW"? There has to be some significance to the word STEW.

Hell, does Campbell's even make cans of STEW?

Perhaps it is some reference to the Gygax family. Gary mentions on his website that he is a southern colonel, so maybe it is Gary, Stu, and Ernie. (Is there a Stu Gygax?)

I don't think so. There is a Luke though. Maybe "LUKEwarm stew"?

(OK, that's a bit of a stretch)

Hey! I just had a thought. Maybe it said "stew" just so that it wouldn't be violation of some trademark or copyright or something. Of course, that wouldn't explain the good Colonel or Ernie, but why draw attention to the flaws in my theory when we can focus on the strengths?

I think POGRE's guess it right. It probably comes from an artist exhibit. You could post on straightdope.com and Ask Ceil. Since it stumped Eric N. I say ask Ceil...

I think I'm with EN on this one. I felt all along that it probably had something to do with Ernie (supposedly) being gay.

I did my Google search, and all I really proved was that you could just about type *anything* in a Google search window and find just about anything every time.

He heard it at IHOP. Later, when he was talking about anurisms he said something about the mall. But when he heard it he was eating pancakes at IHOP.

"If it weren't for my horse, I wouldn't have spent that year in college. I'm going to repeat that, because it bear's repeating. If it weren't for my horse, I wouldn't have spent that year in college. Don't think about that sentence for more than three minutes or your HEAD WILL EXPLODE! (trademark Lewis Black bulging forhead vain)"

No, no...

"...I turned to ask my friends if they had head it, but they had wandered over to look at cell phones they weren't going to buy. I turned back to ask the woman what that meant, but she had disappeared..."

All paraphrased of course, but the general gist of it. Of course, no comedian could possibly have two versions of their skit, so I must be right. ;)
