Crystal weapons...?

Magic Missile

First Post
I've been browsing through my friend's Psi Handbook and there seems to be a lot of emphasis on crystal weapons - both in the illustrations and rules.

But are there actually any specific rules for making weapons out of crystal? Is it like Adamantine or Mithril, ie. you pay extra for the material? I can see the advantages - less susceptible to Heat Metal spells and the like... but do they have any actual rules? Otr failing that, does someone have some house rules?

Thanks for any help... soon to be playing a Githzerai Psychic Warrior with a bladed bow... ^_^

I think I remeber 2e having some guidelines in a supplement (maybe for darksun)... obsidian weapons have penalties to hit and damage because of this.

The drawbacks are mainly centered around it's brittle nature ... ie it may shatter when you strike something. Obviously a magically reinforced item would be fine.

for the most part I've just assumed that the weapons carried by the psions and psychic warriors were made of ferroplasm.. which may work for your purposes, especially if you add some flavor about it being more transluscent the higher level you are until it looks like a perfect crystal or something ;)

or you could convert something like this to make crystal weapons

also, armor has the crystalline ability.. always a plus!

hope that helps ;)

This question has come up quite often.

Take a look here for the latest discussion.

This bit will be out in April, and I hope to address the rest of the issues with crystal after the 3.5 revisions.
