CS account expiration approaching?

We are coming up to the anniversary of the Fund Drive, and a lot of folks will have their CS account up for renewal. I have a couple of questions:

Are the expirations being done by hand, or are they automated? If automated, is there a way of finding out how much time we have left? If done by hand, will renewing now (from the control panel) mess things up?
