Cthulhu Trailer

I wasn't sure if anyone had posted about this or not. The site is strangely hard to track down, so I figured there was a chance I wouldn't be re-posting (I'm also not sure how to use this site's search engine).

Well, here it is. Cthulhu

Its interesting that you post this now, because I have a friend at work who's a visual artist and he and his agent might be wanting me to work on writing a script for them, and if something came of that it occured to me that I should try and do a script for a deccent lovecraft movie.

But it looks like somebody may have beaten me to it. Maybe.

I wouldn't worry about it- it's certainly not the first Lovecraft-themed movie to have been made.

Just off the top of my head:

Dagon
The Dunwich Horror
Re-Animator (from Herbert West, Re-Animator)- which had a couple of sequels
The Case of Charles Dexter Ward (don't remember the name of the movie, but it's based on this story)

I want to say that there has been one based on Pickman's Model (though I'm not positive), and possibly a Shadow Over Innsmouth movie, too (different from Dagon- if not, though, SoI seems like a no-brainer for an adaptation.)

Heck, I'm looking at the Cthulhu trailer now and while I was expecting the black and white version, this looks like a modern take, so there are at least two different Call of Cthulhu movies that have been made.

(For that matter, this movie doesn't even look like anything like the story Call of Cthulhu- looks kind of like a Shadow Over Innsmouth adaptation mainly.)

I know, but it looks like it may be the first one to be decent, at least in my opinion.

It was a Night Gallery episode

I thought "The Ressurected" was pretty good myself (that's the one based on Charles Dexter Ward).

The thing is, you're never going to please fans, because it's almost impossible to do a straight adapation of his work. Since he never was much for dialogue, or women, things which most movie makers want to include in movies.

In anticipation of this movie, they pushed out a rendeition of "Beyond the Wall of Sleep" which, as usual, only vaguely kept to the short story.

Merlion, I'd suggest The Whisperer in Darkness for a good script.

I dunno. If the trailer is suppose to show the exciting parts of the movie, the other parts might require a prescription as a sleep aid. :\

Plus, it looked a bit... uh, what's less than low-budget?

And... was that Tori Spelling in the trailer? That can't be a good sign. Or even a yellow one.

A fairly decent recent piece of Lovecraft on film was "Dreams in the Witch House", an episode of Showtime's Masters of Horror series (playing again this month.)

I didn't think it looked that bad, though I did think some of the shots they chose were... odd. In particular, that first scene, in the parking lot. It was so far away from the performers that I found myself focusing more on the dude catching (and dropping) the football in the back than in what was going on between the actors. Which is not really good.

Shh! You're not supposed to invoke She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named!!!

I think that's the reason why they're not sending the trailer out everywhere. That trailer was up before they had finished shooting the film. I think its just their first draft that was made to appease the growing number of fans, and less to attract new fans to the movie. I'm sure the theatrical trailer will be much more... engrossing.
