Does anyone know how much damage per attack he does?

In the original CoC, there was no contest. It wasn't "can we beat him?" It was "how many can he eat before we escape?"

Yeah, but 20th-level investigators are probably tougher than Chaosim characters. 20th-level non-powergamed D&D characters can presumably knock the tar out of 20th-level investigators. 20th-level smackdown participants won't have any trouble with normal 20th-level D&D characters. So I wouldn't be surprised if a 6-person 20th-level party specifically designed to beat Cthulu could do it.

No problem!

Max out Strength
Take enough levels of Cavalier to get Spirited Charge.
Using Psychofeedback and all your PP, raise your Strength modifier to something completely absurd.

Hit Cthulhu in the face with a very powerful magical Lance while wearing Rhino Hide.
Repeat 5 more times with 5 more identical party members.

cthulhu is CR34......and casts his spells as a 40th level sorc. has 882hit points and AC47 attack bonus +56 9 attacks per round 25ft reach dmg reduction 40/+4 fast healing 50 SR 37 tons of resistances and divine qualities overall well beyond non munch PCs of 20th level I would say.

In the sultans of smack thread, there are various character combos capable of dealing hundreds, if not a thousand, points of damage each.

However, given the spells and abilities given to Chtulu, I'm sure he can pull some smackdown tricks too. After a multi-empowered Tenser's and endurance, his attacks and HP will go up alot.

After all, the scariest abilities on a 20th level sorcerer aren't the attacks and HP, even though those are better than most character.

Maybe someone with the stats can post a Chtulu smackdown, aiming for 10k damage.

The cultists finish their chant, and the air shimmers in the great circle before them. Then the earth tilts, and a noise like a thousand screaming children fills the air - and then Cthulhu stands before the cultists! Some fall to their knees, some gouge out their eyes, some begin copulating with one another, as the waves of insanity roll over them.

"Now's our chance, boys!" says the leader of the Psychic Lances to her five companions. The spur their warhorses into the clearing and charge toward Great Cthulhu, lances crackling with psychic energy.

They're mere yards from him when they realize two things:
-Great Cthulhu has reach; and
-Great Cthulhu has combat reflexes.

The last noise they hear is:

Oh, come on. As if any self-respecting charge smackdown character won't have Ride-By Attack. :D

Damn you for ruining my perfectly cool mental image!

You're right, though, I think; ride-by attack negates these advantages.

We can safely assume, however, that Cthulhu has a chain contingency going that will (among other things) teleport him to a safe location if he takes more than 100 points of damage in a round. So these psiwarriors will still have some trouble: once the big guy heals back up, he'll come after them with the Old One equivalent of a can of Raid.

Why SHOULDN'T an ultra-powerful D&D character be able to beat Cthulhu? High-level D&D characters can fly, turn invisible, call meteors down out of the sky, raise the dead, alter reality, fall off 200 ft cliffs and survive (with a Fort save), mow down hundreds of normal humans, slay enemies with a word, etc, etc, etc.

Its part of the game. However, I can't imagine any number of d20 CoC investigators being able to beat him unless they somehow have access to similar ridiculousness.
