Example: Hi, I'm a Cleric 15. I want to sub out a 4th level spell for a Silent, Still, Cure Moderate Wounds spontaneously. Can I do this?

Just because of the penalties other "spontaneous" casters (sorcerer and bard) suffer when using metamagic (extended casting times), I don't think I'd allow that, at least not without extra time on the swap.

The rules for this is in the PHB, page 78. Please check your indexes will you.

From the SRD

Spontaneous Casting and Metamagic Feats: Clerics spontaneously casting cure or inflict spells can cast metamagic versions of them. Casting a 1-action metamagic spell spontaneously is a full-round action, and spells with longer casting times take an extra full-round action to cast.

Edited for those who did not bother to check.

I have a cleric that has a few metamagic feats, and he uses them whenever the time arises.

Wow, you have a really lenient DM!

Page 78 of the PH states that divine SCs and wizards must prepare them as metamagic when they are prepared.

Except...

Except when dealing with spontaneous casting. If a cleric wants to cast, say, a Silent aid spell, she must prepare it in advance. To cast, say, a Silent cure light wounds, she can use spontaneous casting and suffer the same metamagic-related time increase as would a sorcerer.

Yeah, it is still a full round action to use it, but it does help after combat, heck even during sometimes, when people need healing. That is pretty much the only time I use the metamagic feats.
