Curious about something: would you play in an AD&D campaign?

All things being equal, would you be willing to play in an AD&D 1e campaign?

  • Nah, not for me. I'm into other versions and won't look back.

I'm one of the maybe votes. I'll play any edition of D&D as long as I believe two things.

1. The DM is a good one.

2. The players are good players.

If I believe those two things I'll even play 4E like I have for the last two months.

I would play one of the super-modules again. I have pretty fond memories of Slavers and Against the Giants. I also enjoyed the first two bigguns in the FR, Pool of Radiance and Curse of Azure Bonds. I would play with the old BECMI stuff again too.

I don't think I could run any of these games but I would play. It would have to be focused though. One big adventure arc is probably all I could handle.

To the OP: You mentioned dragonsfoot.org so presumably you are aware of Castles & Crusades. I think C&C may be what you are looking for. As a blend of 1e's aesthetics and some of the more sophisticated rules concepts of 3e it might sate your disparate desires with one game.

Good luck.

Voted "no", mostly as I hate the AD&D stat mods, but I might consider it as long as Unearthed Arcana was not used. I'd much rather play B/X or BECMI though.

Count me in. You'll have to explain weapon speed and weapon-vs.-armour-type, though, as despite playing and DMing 1e for ages I've never used either. :)

In a heartbeat.

Uh, it it was 1st edition, that is. If we're talking 2nd here, then maybe, but only if it's one particular DM I've known for many a year, and no other. Not that 2e would be a likely choice as it so happens, but still. Yeah, I would give it a go then.

Sometimes you just find a DM who is that amazingly adaptable and inspirational. . . if you're lucky. Hell, if 4e - or another game I'm not at all keen on - was on the menu in this context, I'd do my best to enjoy and to help make it enjoyable for the others.

Voted yes, although 4e is my favorite edition. But if we get tired of that (doubtful), we are talking about going to 1e. As long as it is not 3.x, it's all good.
