Curse of lycanthropy - which rule do you use?

There's the DMG/Races of Faerun rule:
For every bite a fort save against DC 15.

Monsters of Faerun:
Damage/encounter = percentage to contract the disease.

While the first makes it pretty easy for high level campaigns, the second is just the opposite, but then it's probably no problem anymore.
I´m not happy with either rule but the second is closer to the OD&D rule which was quite good imo.
(more than half your current HP lost in a fight with a lycanthrope -> diseased)

Playing LG we go for the Fort save, as it takes less time to figure the target # (not all LG mods have EL's listed). In a home campaign I'd go for the latter as it's a better mechanic & I'll know the El's of the encounters I create ahead of time.
