Cursed items

EvilGM said:
I used a few cursed items in the last campaign (levels 1 to 6) I ran...

Loadstone - found on a corpse in a dungeon hallway. This one is really irritating - I believe it was a death sentence for the mage.

I think there was an item (2e?) called a combat stone or stone of conflict or something close to that...I think it made the owner fail every encounter role. I wanted them to figure it out, so I sent the encounters pretty rapidly in succession and completely random so they could see that it was something outside the plot. It almost TPK the party I gave it to, but they luckily pawned it off onto a stone giant who was then eerily attacked by drow while they ran away.

We laughed so hard.

Cursed items should be fun, much like D&D.

I'm a big fan of the "Gnomish Boots of Silence" For those you unfamiliar with the item, when it is activated a gnomish voice bellows "GNOMISH BOOTS OF SILENCE WILL ACCTIVATE IN 10 SECONDS" Then counts down and then screams "GNOMISH BOOTS OF SILENCE NOW ACTIVATED" then after five steps "YOU HAVE TAKEN FIVE SILENT STEPS" again every five steps. It was great when the cocky thief almost got everyone killed.

I also have an npc who wears a bag of devouring on his belt in hopes of catching pick pockets. Think Willy Wonka meets Captain Jack Sparrow. He is one of my favourite NPC's of all time ever.
