Cursed NPC's

About 6 years ago I was running a Planescape campaign. The heroes had travelled to Acheron, made a deal with one of Grumsh's many sons, and needed to flush an expeditionary company of gnolls out of a crater before they could return to Sigil.

As the leader of the gnolls I had envisioned Count Hyazindu Byarish, a minor noble of Yeenoghu's court. I statted him up (this was 2ed), liked what I saw and gave him a bit of a backstory so I could use him as a recurring NPC, if he survived.

It didn't happen; the game stalled, I had to leave the country frequently and the PC's ultimately never did meet the Count.

Fast forward 2 years.

My travel plans became less frequent, we started another PS campaign (still 2ed) and the heroes were investigating a strange abandoned building in the Clerk's Ward. Going in through the basement they were harried by various traps and gaurdians. Next session they were to reach the top floor and rescue the girl being held there, but not before a company of gnolls, led by Count Hyazindu Byarish would show up, having followed in the PC's wake and demand they be given an amulet the girl was wearing. Once again I thought I'd use Yeenoghu's noble as a recurring villain.

It was not to be. One of my players had a personal tragedy, the rest of the group felt bad and we never did get back to the campaign.

Fast forward to 1 year ago.

Another Planescape campaign, this time with some new people. I was determined not to make the same mistake again. I would introduce the count ASAP. In the interim I had statted him out for 3E (Half-fiend gnoll Ftr2/Sor9).

The campaign imploded 2 sessions in. New people sometimes have differing expectations and paladins in Sigil are never a good idea. We decided to drop the whole thing before we invested more time into it.

Count Hyazindu Byarish still languishes in my folder.

Anyone with a similiar experience ?
