D&D 5E Cursed telepathic item

Greetings fellow role players.

I've got a game in about four hours and am just going over my notes and realised I've missed something out.

There's a small statuette that the characters are going to find and I want it to communicate telepathically to the person holding it. Much like the skull in Critical Role.

But I don't know what kind of things it would say. I want it to have slightly evil suggestions and maybe have the holder roll a saving throw to determine if they will listen, otherwise they could just ignore it all the time thus rendering it pointless.

Just after some ideas or if anyone has ever had something similar?

Many thanks

You're going about it all wrong. You don't want the character to listen, you want the player to listen. They have to agree or disagree out of their own violation.

Have the statuette whisper aspirations about others. That that commoner is acting shifty and eying your coin purse. That the prince has an alterior motive. Why would the person you met in the tavern actual pay you when you complete their quest?

Be insidious. Corruptive. Make them think that what they're doing is right because of the information given to them, rather than because they failed a roll.
