No, it can't be... thinks Lawrence. He naturally take his human form back while running to the man. "Gus, is it you? Are you ok?"

"Hey, no kissing on the first date, what type of man do you take me for?"

Granite will attempt to punch the lizard thing in the head while maintaining the grapple.

Granite gets a solid grip on the lizard man with one hand and delivers a devastating blow to its head with his other. It's skull crunches enough to assure Granite that it won't be getting back up again anytime soon...if ever.

With the lizard man down, the two gunmen both open back up on Granite - full auto. The spray of bullets richochet off his skin leaving trails of sparks. While the bullets may not cause him substantial injury, it does hurt.

Granite hurls the lizard man's body into one of the gunmen and then pounces on the other. He is an ordinary human, soft and squishy, and is quickly knocked unconscious. The gunman under the pile of lizard also appears to have been knocked cold.

And just that quickly, the mine returns to its deadened silence. A faint crackling sound around Granite's neck reminds him of the radio headset he'd been provided with. It had been knocked off his ears when the lizard man first pounced on him. He shifts it back into place.

"Come in, Granite," a slightly garbled voice comes through. "We hear gun fire, is everything okay?"

Inside the room, Lawrence gets his frist view of the man and his fears are confirmed - it's Gus. He is propped up against the back of the display shelving, his wrists bound above his head. His bare chest bears burn marks and several cuts. Syringes and bottles are also cast aside. The evidence suggests that someone spent quite some time torturing him in a variety of cruel and inventive ways.

Surrounding Gus are over two dozen dogs, cats, and rats, animals of the city streets. They are all sitting in respectful silence, facing the old man. Few even look up at Lawrence.

"Gus" asks Lawrence. He approach and doesn't know what to do. He start to untie his bound. "Please, tell me something.". Once his friend his free, Lawrence try to see if the man is still alive, breathing and his heart beating. "Come on, don't let it go. You have to be alive..." he says, tears filling his his eyes, words having difficulty to get out of his throat.

"Well, that was certainly unexpected," Maggie says after Steven closes the door. "What do you think about all this...well...this story of theirs? And are you going to want me to tag along or stick around here and take care of business matters?"
"Well . . . I really don't know what to think about them," Steven replied honestly. "The have some skills, that was certain. The story seems too . . . unexpected . . . to be fabricated."

Steven checked the spy hole to see if they had really left, or if they were still in the hall.

"They were worried about their cousin, that was evident," Steven continued. "But, whether they told us everything or not . . . I'm not certain. I think they were honest . . . and I would like to think so as well, but it could be a trap as well. I think you should stay here, it would be safer. Also, if I don't call you every . . . say eight hours or so . . . call the new friends I've made and have them come rescue me." Steven finished with a smile.

OOC: Is the telepathy still active with Denise - if so he would be 'listening in' for a few moments after they left to get their impressions.

"Granite here, just ran into a welcoming comittee, two regulars and lizard thing. They have been... dealt with, looks like the entry is secure. I am going to continue farther into the mine, Granite out." Granite responds as he retrives the objects that he lost in his brief fight, once everything is secure again he will head out further into the mine.

Lawrence places a hand upon Gus' neck to feel for a pulse. The stone cold temperature of his flesh tells Lawrence the story, though. Gus is long dead.

A low "wuff" comes from behind Lawrence. In the middle of the room, which had been empty moments earlier, sits a medium sized dog. It's a mutt with shaggy gray fur streaked with black. It's eyes are bright blue and suggest intelligence...and they take in Lawrence seriously.

The other animals that surround Gus' body begin to surround this newcomer, making meows and soft barks that sound rather welcoming.

"Right then," Maggie says. "Maybe I'll actually be able to get some work done without you underfoot. You can have the shower to yourself first as you'll probably want to get going."

ooc - Sure, it's still active but not for long. Fate can easily tune into the women's conversation as they wait for the elevator. Denise is conceding that things went better than she'd hoped for, and that she has some hope he might really be the Sorcerer...capable of helping them. Deeper down, Fate senses fear of what may happen to them and even the world if the Sorcerer has really returned.

The mine is cool and damp, and quiet. It's not difficult to discern where most of the foot traffic has been lately and there are visible footprints and litter along one of the main passages. Granite's pretty sure that he's making enough noise to be heard from quite some distance. Figuring that the echoes in the silence work both ways, though, he frequently makes abrupt stops to listen. For a good half a mile, he encounters nothing.

In a larger chamber, Granite pauses again when he senses that he's no longer alone. He shines his flashlight around and its beam comes to land upon another of the lizard men...this one aiming a large mechanical contraption at him. At a sharp hissing command, several lights pop on throughout the room. Two other lizard men are flanking him at a distance of about thirty feet.

Before Granite can react, the lizard man with the gun-thing fires a narrow cone of blue'ish light at him. It doesn't hurt, or feel like anything at all. But then Granite notices something worrisome - his stony skin begins to fade away and the weight of his pack becomes increasingly noticable.

"I see no problem with . . . sharing the shower with you," Steven said with a smile. "They've waited a long time for the 'Sorceror' to arrive, they can wait a little longer."

Regardless of what happens there, Steven thought through any individuals he had met that might have some insight in something like there . . . rumors or stories even. If that didn't turn anything up, he hopped on the Computer to search the net for any information.
