Why couldn't CustServ be done differently: have the question posted to this board, have the answer debated, then have a "Rules Czar" select one of the popular opinions?
The internet is a powerful thing. They should use it!
On a message board, that level of debate would be fine.
In-game, the best thing to do is pick the decision that the DM likes, and stick with it. Debate it AFTER, if one wished, but there's no need for that level of "officialness" in-game. There are more important things at stake.
Of course! But I'm talking about "dotting the 'i's and crossing the 't's" of the rule set we all reference out-of-game. I'm not sure anyone is suggesting contacting CustSrv in the middle of a session!

I suppose finishing a session a half-hour early, on a cliffhanger, to get an answer for an absolutely crucial question could be done if one wanted to, but...
