D&D 4e PDFs at RPGNow

I would say it's easily worth $25.00 being able to do word searches on a computer instead of skimming through the book is huge! Sure there is the table of contents and the index but some times you can't find what you're looking for.

If I was reading a story I wouldn't like it in a PDF format... however for the ability to reference material I prefer electronic material over paper material any day of the week.

I'm not surprised that the pdf is listed at the MSRP, WoTC is practically obligated to sell at that price. Otherwise they would unfairly compete with retailers.

Can someone explain to me the difference between the "Original Electronic" version and the "Watermarked PDF" version of the books? Can't seem to find a reference to the difference formats anywhere.

Alvo

They are not mutually exclusive. Original Electronic File is a PDF that is created from a source layout document rather than a scanned hardcopy; it's pure digital goodness.

Watermarked simply means that they mark the PDF with your information (usually account ID) so that if you distribute it, they know you are the source of the copyright violation.

Yeah, I wanted to ask the same thing. Are they bookmarked? OCR'd so you can search them?

Yes to both, although the bookmarks are pretty bare-bones (just to each chapter). I'm uncertain if the bookmarks are set to be cleaned up and expanded in the future.

OCR, no. OEF, yes. OCR is optical character recognition used on scanned copies. These files are original electronic copies made from digital source files.

What he said. All I know is that you can search for specific words/phrases.

Already having the content doesn't really matter though. It's not like after I bought the 4e PHB book I could get a second one for cheaper because I already had the content.
That wasn't my point. I wouldn't pay $25 to have a second PHB, either.

I generally consider PDFs to be worth significantly less than dead trees, anyway. This has been confirmed to be when I've gotten PDFs of otherwise great products. I wouldn't pay $25 bucks for a PDF PHB even if I didn't have the paper version. $15 bucks, tops, unless the linking is really something amazing.
