D&D 4e PDFs at RPGNow

We're discussing and will let everyone know what direction we'll go in when the errata is done.

Great news! Thank you, Lidda. I'm one of those who would rather have a pdf than a hardcover (freaky, I know!) so I'm very pleased to see these, particularly if they have errata added.

She likes things like, Harry Potter and Buffy, and even loved the LoTR movie and Pan's labyrinth... But is resistant to try D&D. One day... one day... :p

(off-topic...) I'm in the same boat. She LOVES the LoTR moves and Harry Potter but won't touch a rpg game.

My current plan... I'm going to try and run my 3 kids though KotS in the near future. With 3 kids and me running a character that only gives us a party of 4. I'm going to ask her to 'help me out' and run a 5th character so I don't have to change anything in the module. She can be VERY competitive... it will be interesting to see how she takes the experience.

/off-topic.

I'll pay $20 tops for a PDF file.. and it better be fricken amazing if I do.
If it had bookmarks and a clickable ToC, I'd totally buy that for 20$ - that's about 10£... I'm able to spend that without sweating - especially for something as massive as the PHB. Plus, I've paid about 13£ for my dead-tree versions, so 10£ or 20$ is a deal for me... but over that, it starts hurting.

Cheers, LT.

Count me in as excited with the way WotC is releasing digital versions of their D&D products. I think the price (30% off suggested retail) is VERY reasonable. I can totally understand if some people don't like e-books, or don't like the way WotC is formatting their PDF e-books, or isn't comfortable with the price point . . . but to accuse WotC of being "greedy", going back on their "promises", or likening them to T$R is, in my opinion, is ignorant and childish.

I'll probably buy all the hardcovers in physical form, but purchase modules and hopefully the Player Character Record Sheets package electronically. If my gaming budget increases, I might also buy electronic versions of some of the hardcovers.

While it would be nice if WotC could/would provide free PDF copies of the books you purchased physically, I understand how that could be difficult and counterproductive for the company, and I have no complaints there.

I know if you purchase physical copies of Paizo's products through their website, you get a free PDF version . . . does anybody know if that holds true if you purchase through a local brick & mortar store?

I'm not surprised that the pdf is listed at the MSRP, WoTC is practically obligated to sell at that price. Otherwise they would unfairly compete with retailers.
Ah, but it's not! WotC is allowing DriveThruRPG.com to sell the books at 30% off suggested retail price. That might be still too high of a price for some, and it may be a temporary offer, but that's the facts as of now.

They abandoned that idea a long time ago. It's in the DDXP Q&A video. The logistics were too complicated.

They went with an open* D&D Compendium instead, which (should) have all the character applicable rules, in it, if you own the product or not. Originally you were going to have to prove you owned the book to have the rules available.

$25 is a bit too much for me for the moment, even for the two 4e books I'm most likely to want in pdf (PH and MM).

I spent $36 on the subscription for the 12 part adventure path module series War of the Burning Sky. I bought the pdf of 700+ page Ptolus on sale for $36 while currently running a game set there (based off of info from the banewarrens and free player's guide). These are not my typical purchases however, I generally pick up a lot of cheaper pdfs on a regular basis. for instance I own every one of Fantasy Flight Games' $5 Legends and Lairs series of d20 sourcebook pdfs that interested me.

Spending $50 for a pdf of the basic rules of a new game when the games I currently run and play are 3.5 is not that tempting. I could fit it into my gaming budget, but there are a ton of things more appealing right now for $50.

I'm considering the $30 700 page Castle White Rock 1-15 dungeon crawl mega adventure. I'm considering the $20 400 pages or so Goodman Games Aerth Campaign Setting pdf. I'm also considering the other DCC modules I have not yet picked up. After the Goodman games DCCs are gone there are still a bunch of White Wolf Scarred Lands and other d20 pdfs I am interested in picking up that are now $5 or $10.

If there was a free PH srd I would probably try a 4e pbp game and give 4e a shot. Paying $50 for the equivalent of www.srd.org to try out a game just is not appealing compared to the fun I currently have with d20 and the tons of cheaper game material available. Mostly the same reason I have not picked up any of the exalted pdfs.
