D&D 4e PDFs at RPGNow

I realize every person has their own budget limitations etc, but I for one think an electronic version of ANY book is a great idea...particularly the MODULES!!!!! Those I would buy in PDF form instead of paper. I will likely purchase the PHB as well....maybe the MM.

I would guess many of the people complaining of the cost of a PDF version are probably also out paying $4 for a Starbucks (*$) coffee you drink in 5 minutes, and a reference book like this you use for years - I think it is a great value at current price.

I haven't complained about the price here but I take objection to your comment. I think the price is outrageous and I haven't paid $4 for coffee in years. It's ridiculous that you could have bought the print books for cheaper than the pdfs. I understand why rpg books cost $35 now when they used to be much less. Paper/ink is now much more expensive plus general inflation. But are electrons more expensive now? I don't think anyone would be complaining if they were selling them for $15 even though I probably still wouldn't buy. They'd probably make more money off them, too. They'd need to sell 66% more, but I'd imagine that some people might buy the pdf first and then go out and buy the books, IF the pdfs are cheap to begin with. I wonder what their sales projections were for different prices, if they even did them.

And back to your comment about bitching about the price. I have kids, my wife and I both work, the economy is very rough right now, gas prices, etc. I'm not pissing away money on something that'll be gone five minutes later, at least not something like coffee which has virtually no nutritional value. I think you'll find that many of the people complaining about the price are similar to me.

I think it's cool that WotC has released them. But my rule of thumb is if I can find them new, in hardback, on the internet for cheaper than the pdf, I'm not buying.

THE PHB has already been updated with full bookmarks, search, copy/paste, etc. The MM and DMG are to follow, and they're all about 25 MB each. I'm quite happy with these.
Please clarify what is meant by "full bookmarks".

Is there an index of tables? Subheading links? Feat/power/ritual links? Inline linking?

Basically, every chapter, heading, and sub-heading are bookmarked now. The bookmarks are indented to show what is found in what (e.g. sub-headings are indented further than the heading they're listed under).

This was the PHB, right, not the other two books?

But, no index of tables, eh?

Don't know if it does or doesn't have an index of tables, but why would you need an index of tables if you can search? Adobe Reader has a great full search feature that lists every occurrence of a search term or phrase with surrounding content for context, and you simply click on one to jump to that point in the document.

By the way, Adobe Reader 9 seems to have significant speed improvements, especially with scrolling.

The pdfs are terrific for building characters. I can search for "vs. Will", for instance, and quickly run through all the powers that synergize best with the 16th level Divine Oracle ability.

I gotta admit, when I've got the physical book in my hands I often find myself wishing for ctrl-f functionality. :)
