D&D 4th Edition, H Series, Online Game

Just out of curiosity, why can't we just play on dimdim for a few weeks until you get your hardware in order?

If you want , we can log in and we can try it out

I believe that is the intention....(Teamspeak really is as simple as it gets though)....I will put up dimdim and paste the address again....may take me a bit to find the mic feature....not as comfy with the software as Zardoz is....gimme a few minutes then check for the address.

You know, I just remembered a trick that I used to use to speed things up when I was DM for a long campaign. I would have each play get a piece of paper and preroll one hundred d20 rolls or even 200 if it was to be a marathon session. I would clip these papers to their character sheets. Every time I needed a d20 roll for "to hit" or saves, I just used the next one on their list and crossed it off. I even let them rearrange the natural 19's and 20's to be more evenly spaced on the list. It was a lot faster for me than waiting for rolls and it let me deal with secret rolls for perception, secret doors, and such without giving away the fact that they're checking for something. You could do this for a few sessions until GC is up and running on your computer. You might even get to like it for after your up and running for secret rolls. I did.

I have access to Google Wave

It looks like google wave will have a great deal of potential to help this game out. It does not provide a live audio interface, but it will provide a live chat interface that can double as a forum, and help us avoid over populating a thread here on enworld. I would like to have us all try it out.

It will require a gmail address to use, but those are easy to get. If you give me a gmail address, I can invite you into wave.

I suggest we try using google wave to track things that we do not need to do live, such as scheduling, keeping up to date character records, and anything else we can figure out to try with it.

Objections?

END COMMUNICATION

I am currently farting around with maptool and dicetool.....I will post the summary of last night within the hour.

Quicknote to players:

On the matter of Taren and Fusion:

-Zardoz - Prefers fridays but is flexible.
-Ftr - Has NO preferences whatsoever

This means the deciding (or damning) vote will be done by Thedeathndecay as to when we will all agree to meet for gaming.

If Decay say he has no preference then friday wins by default.

Other than that we will just have to wait and see.

Test Combat to be held in maptools tonight...check in this thread for details.

Peace & Light.

Okay,

So last night Zardoz, Ftr and myself were expiramenting with googlemap and gmail.
During the futzing around we decided for a temporary soloution to see what the rptools website had to offer.
As a result...we will be trying a test combat using map tools.
It looks promising....(but most alternatives always do before you discover where the bugs lie)....I am having trouble moving tokens so far but I should have that figured out before dinner.
I have seen its dice applications.....they look good.
The chat function is okay and allows even a distinction between monsters and players talking....but the chat box is tiny and really only good for action and instant communication....narration would suffer greatly in a box so small.
The PDF included with the software only discuss' how to increase memory and for installation concerns.....there is no PDF use documentation....I hope its in the help file of the actual program or its back to trial and error...but still, considering my melting motherboard its a decent alternative.....i am sure things will smooth out with glittercom.
I have not found a mic function in map tools yet and are a bit suprised as I was informed it had one but have yet to find it.
Dimdim is working well for now....Ftr may buy an membership to dimdim and solve our short term "30 day trial" problem....if he doesn't....Teamspeak is a decent and uncomplicated alternative but we will cross that bridge if and when we have to.
Except for Thedeathndecay...who is waiting on books to arrive....all characters have been tendered and most features have been resolved with respect to individual dynamics.
Once the maptools issue is resolved, hopefully this evening, there is no reason why the game is not a day(s) away from commencing.
I will be lurking in thread....if I do not respond promptly it is because I am still in maptools or haven't refreshed the forum page yet.

I think thats the bulk of it.

Peace & Light
