D&D 4th Edition, H Series, Online Game

Aha, the book says a Paladin has to be the same alignment as its diety. That means an unaligned Paladin. Which apparently works by the rules. Odd. So my goliath is now unaligned instead of good. I wonder how that plays.

Also, Khopesh sword with the attack bonus, please.

Looking at some of the combat actions here, that Aid Another one. Reckon the half-orc could pick up and throw the warlord at the enemy, then charge on into the fight himself?

Every God has his Defender of the Faith....there is also the Avenger class...maybe that sheds some light.

Mental Note to self on Kopesh.

That can only happen under certain circumstances:

1) The warlord is a dwarf. Dwarf tossing is an accepted practice among many races

Douven is the Dwarven Smith/Adventurer not really an npc but a hook....(for now that is).....Warlord is a Human.

Note....to a goliath, everyone is a dwarf!

(You watched Smokin' Aces 2, admit it!)

Dwarf Tossing

I would presume that for Dwarf Tossing, the following would need to happen:

1) Grab attack - Str vs Reflex. (Standard Action)
2) Move a Grabbed Object (Str vs Fort) allows me to move 1/2 my movement. I presume we can determine the distance of the throw with an Athletics check, with the DC determined by the DM (taking into account the weight of the dwarf plus his Armour, Sheild, Weapon, and possibly his backpack). I suggest making the distance traveled based off half the distance traveled a jump check, and applying the weight of the dwarf as a static modifier.

For this to happen in 1 round would probably require me to use an action point. Now, if I am throwing the dwarf at something, I would also have to refer to page 42 of the DMG. I would scale the damage with the level of my character, possibly using the Normal Damage Expressions, Medium (1d10+3 for a 1st level Barbarian) for to apply damage to both the target and the Dwarf. I would treat the thrown dwarf as a Str vs Reflex attack for the target. Dwarf would suffer damage even on a missed or short throw.

Given that this attack would require at least 2 standard actions, and perhaps 1 move action (to account for the Athletics Check on the throw), it is not an especially efficient mode of inflicting damage, unless you happen to be near a very high ledge.

Also, I think I will cross post my Dwarf Tossing suggestion to rules, see what they think of it.

Armor is definitely going to be handy, but I just can't afford it yet, hence the question on replacement or trade in value.

Here's my line of thinking.....

The average primary weapon runs about 5-15 gold coins.
The consider the inflated value....50-150 gold coins.....okay, hold that thought.

The heavy or light shield suggestions fall right in those value levels.

Leather (as a minimum lets say and not even within a smith's area of expertise) 25 gold.....inflated value is 250 and already it is far too power an advantage and unfair to the other players.
However....with a no charge theme in mind and still wanting to be fair to the others....an "Ultra Thin" chainmail.....so thin it is more a "work of art" than practical armor.....the properties of feyweave cloth but at twice the weight to reflect the "metalwork" and that way it is still in the appropriate price range and not too unbalencing.

What do you think....then you can still have free armor?

I like your msn idea but I have an old update copy of windows xp....my messenger (and therefore msn pass) hasn't worked on over a year.
That will be fixed in 2 weeks but that won't help now....I will try and create a new msn pass id and see what happens.

I DO however have teamspeak....if we all have microphones....dling TS is a simple thing....then we just load room selections and pick one and discuss away.

Back in 5 or so....maybe longer, if it worked.

Okay...it just asked me if I want to goto msn canada or msn usa.
First of all....htf long has THIS been going on for and secondly....does it matter?

Okay it apparently does matter....its not telling me what I am doing wrong and its not letting me join under a new e-mail.

(I think its still mad at me)

10 minutes later....the msn thing....definitely a bust on that...I can't even get a new pass id.

Map Tools supposedly has a mic feature....if we all agree on a build version to download tonight, we can try this tommorrow but actually speaking.

Also hoping we might meet a bit earlier for the sake of our mate across the pond.
9 pm est is 2 am for him.....in light of this, a "full table" will probably only happen on a weekend....perhaps starting near 5pm for us so its only 9pm for him....or something like that....hard to say for now....no one else has weighed in yet on the subject.

I will be lurking.....I refresh the page every 10 mins or so if I am not typing.

Peace & Light (and confusion)

Alright, here is what I know.

The room setting up part is not an issue....anytime I want, at the drop of a dime and it will be up.
This brings me to sunny point one:

It's so easy because there are no random generators included in rooms so the choice becomes this....do we use dice tools or are you all alright with me resolving your rolling "issues"....as they suggest is the practice here?
(I will leave that up to you players entirely, majority rules.)

Two:

With Map Tool we have to unliaterally decide on a build model....one of us can't have v1.3 when the other has v1.21.....what build do we all decide to have?
(The latest ones have a mic feature and we could talk our way throught this next time!)

Three:

Last Item....as we have discovered....weekends may be our only days of opportunity....we have a player in the U.K. (is it?) and the time difference for a simple 9pm meet is unusually cruel for him.
What days of the weekend are best for you people.....I personally am good to go on any day or time of day requested by the majority....you simply need to tell me whats good for you.

If anyone has another point to bring up (and I am sure to have forgotten something) please, don't keep it to yourself.

The room is set up 10 seconds after these three issues....(or any new ones brought up)....are put to bed.

(If anyone needs me I will be here watching "Willow")

Peace & Light

I have skype on my machine, it is also free.

I am a bit surprised that MSN is giving you problems Eryiedes. You could try the web messenger which ought to work out fine. My msn address is lordzardoz@hotmail.com.

Windows Live Hotmail

For the maptools, I will take whatever build the rest of us go with. To simplify things, I say DM picks the software, and we go from there.

I am not entirely sure what the best option will be to resolve the timezone issue We may have to arrange for a much looser tolerance for response times. Weekends should be mostly fine, with the understanding that on occasion any one of us may have other plans for a weekend evening or afternoon. My usual D&D game runs on Sunday afternoons from noon untli 5 - 6 pm eastern time, and that will have priority over this online game.

We may want to use a google group or yahoo group for this game instead of this forum. I am also curious aboug Google wave, which is supposed to be some strange mashup of a forum, instant message conversation, and wiki. That kind of tech may be able to allow us to more easily handle game elements that cannot run completely in real time. Unfortunately since google wave is currently 'invite only' as gmail was for a while, we may not be able to use that tech at this time.

I would prefer a means of making my own dice rolls, but the matter is not a deal breaker.

I think the first thing we should all do is select a real time chat mechanism for all (or at least most) of us to be able to have a real time conversation before we make any plans beyond that.

session mechanics

okay..this may be a bit long so bear with me.

Maptools is great but it does not have an integrated dice roller

Glittercomm is better, I think in that it is simpler to use has most if not all the same features, and has an integrated dice roller and initiative bar, BUT it can only accommodate the DM and 5 players in a session. This could be usable if the NPC character is run by the DM completely in chat and does not require a session slot. :D

As for personal voice chat, I like it for OOC conversation and player planning. Otherwise the posts become a real mash and a real clutter.

I propose that we use any one of the VTT the DM picks, I could care less, use its integrated chat for IC activity. We simultaneously use a seperate mic chat program to handle OOC stuff. The dice rolling either leave to the DM or use the integrated program if the VTT has it. You can get some options at RPTOOLS.net

Any ideas on the mic chat software?
