Looking at your AD&D math more your math is off. Here is the corrected math adding 2 new levels 7 and 13 to show the change when extra hits come into effect:

For fun, I picked up the Monstrous Compendium Annual Vol 1 and decided to do some graphs based on the ACs and XP values there. I left out a lot of dragon ages, but got some interesting results:

Thanks! I thought AD&D Fighter got extra attacks, but I missed that in the book for some reason. Been a long while since I played AD&D.

I expect I know exactly why you missed it in the book - in first edition, it's at the end of the section on Rangers! :)
