Adal favours Oz a skeptical smile, eyes shining, holding something back. "You're a flatterer," she says, but still crosses her forelegs in an unpracticed, faintly ironic curtsy.

"It is only flattery if it is not true and well meant my dear. You have the natural grace that hooves grant. I fear it is only that no one in this strange place has the eyes to recognize it and tell you." replies Oz

[section]The effigy left off chiding Liliana and turned its attention fully on Shard. Maybe the strange gew-gaw woman was right. Maybe he did need to speak his life to her. Without really knowing what he was doing, he approached Shard, came right up to hover in front of her, looked her dead in the eye. And attempted to supplant his life's experiences for her own, trying to make her see his point of view, if only for a moment.[/section]
[sblock=OOC]I've been waiting to try out Infusion, which is Picayune's version of magic jar. Pic is Bard 3, with Charisma 15. I believe the Charisma DC is 15 12. From the stat block for Infusion on Pic's character sheet:
[sblock=Infusion]One living creature that the effigy can see within 5 feet of it must succeed on a Charisma saving throw or be possessed by the effigy. The effigy can use Infusion a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier. You must complete a long rest before you can do so again.

The effigy then disappears, and the target is incapacitated and loses control of its body. The effigy now controls the body but doesn't deprive the target of awareness. The effigy can't be targeted by any attack, spell, or other effect, except ones that turn undead, and it retains its alignment, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma, and immunity to being charmed or frightened. It otherwise uses the possessed target's statistics, but doesn't gain access to the target's knowledge, class features, or proficiencies.

The possession lasts until the body drops to 0 hit points, the effigy ends it as a bonus action, or the effigy is forced out by an effect like the dispel evil and good spell. When the possession ends, the effigy reappears in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the body. The target is immune to this effigy’s Infusion for 24 hours after succeeding on the saving throw or after the possession ends.[/sblock]

What I intend with this "casting" of Infusion is sort of a non-hostile takeover of Shard's physical form for a few moments. If she were an enemy on the battlefield, Picayune would use Infusion to harm her, but that's not his intent here. He wants to: 1) share with her who he is; and 2) make the point that he's not to be f'd with. He's tired, he's cranky, and he wants to be known. Pretty much, the same goals we've seen Shard evince for herself. :) Love you, Shayuri. I'm ducking now.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]Spell save DC in 5e is 8 + your proficiency bonus + your ability modifier-- basically just so that it's always 10 + your ability modifier at 1st level. ;) Not to worry, though-- I believe in Pic's case that would come to 12, but then again 12 is not so trivial given bounded accuracy and a dearth of feats.[/sblock]

"Mm, yes. Seldom do I meet a good two-legged man," Adal teases, a smirk playing across her cheeks.

Eurid watches the scene sprawling throughout the tavern with a quiet sort of distance. He's seen it a hundred times; the way the average Prime can stop worrying about the strangeness of Outer Planar reality once he's got a roof over his head and a flagon of cheap bub in his hand. Good ol' taverns. Primes love taverns.

All this joy and merrymaking puts him in a sour mood as he laments the way the living cling to any comfort, no matter how small or trivial. He distracts himself with his meal, but knows that these are the lands of the dead. The living are tourists here or, at best, expatriates. He shall have to dedicate a lesson to proper decorum before these Clueless end up Sensates or worse.

Speaking of which...

The dour-looking young man sitting fretfully at the corner table against the wall-- he's familiar to Eurid, and from his sneer, he would seem to be familiar with Eurid's gray robes. He has prime written all over him.

His name is Hathfall, Duke Hathfall according to his elven servant, who you don't see at present. He's wearing a black frock coat, a black cravat, and a black lace shirt. His face is ill-shaven, and his brown hair is clipped close to the skull, suggesting a widow's peak that will only grow more lonely as he gets older. On the table in front of him are a thin-stemmed wineglass stained with sediment, a pair of similar-looking dusty bottles, and a glossy black wig.

"Oh, hells. So the Dustymen are visited upon me even in this crude and stinking den? Fouler than a cage of voles, this city of yours, I swear." He seems to hold his wine well, and plenty of it, at that. "If you're here to persuade me of the merits of your death-worshipping philosophy, be in no particular hurry to pound in your tent-stakes just yet, would you? Whatever dim weather the winds of fate may blow into this life's glory, I've no inclination to pack it all in, or rather, it is not in me to abandon my hereditary duties." He makes a sour face, and holds up his glass in toast. "Noblesse oblige, you know..."

[sblock=Eurid]Evidently he lost everything ("--family, keep, ancestral holdings, the city, the province, the whole bloody country--") to a baatezu incursion. You wouldn't think he had much left to hold onto in this False Life, but vengeance, kept at a low simmer, seems to be enough to keep his gray heart seething.[/sblock]

OOC: Thanks. I posted the save DC without benefit of my PHB. I've amended, above.

OOC: No big deal. Just felt like it was the sort of thing I ought to be doing as DM. :p

If it seems like I'm keeping quiet lately, it's because there's been things going on which I didn't want to interrupt. And still don't. By all means, continue.

Lili takes comfort with Shard protecting her, keeping behind her but peeking over her shield to look for floating bones.
