[D&D 5E] Securing the Alliance: An Adventure in Tethyr (IC)

With impressive skill and grace, Corilo moved to the mouth of the cave and took a quick glance. He stifled a gasp as he spotted a large, brutish humanoid barely 15 feet from him, looking in his direction.

After a second, the ogre turned back around, apparently not having spotted the stealthy fighter. Doing his best to reconnoiter the cave from his perch, Corilo spotted two other ogres in the cave, a fire burning near the center, and a pile of detritus near a large stalagmite. The human could clearly hear the grunting, guttural language, but could still not comprehend it.

Brue waited, uneasy, outside. She couldn't see anything, but the audible grunting and rumbly speech of whatever laid in wait inside the cave was unsettling. She kept her greatsword at the ready.

OOC: Should we wait for the sun to come up and turn them into stone? :) Shades of burrahobbit here.

"Ogres not good business," Gnorth says using his best indoor voice as he places his hand on Corilo's shoulder, "But I think you do well against."

OOC: Gnorth is giving a use of bardic inspiration to Corilo as a bonus action. The creature can wait until after it rolls the d20 before deciding to use the Bardic Inspiration die, but must decide before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. Once the Bardic Inspiration die is rolled, it is lost.

Gnorth then looks to the others and rattles off a neat, quiet little rhythm in a sort of beatboc fashion. "And the two of you are equally heroic."

OOC: Gnorth is casting Heroism using a 2nd level spell slot on Lorenzo and Brue. Until the spell ends, the creature is immune to being frightened and gains temporary hit points equal to your spellcasting ability (3!!!!) modifier at the start f each o f its turns. When the spell ends, the target loses any remaining temporary hit points from this spell.

Gnorth then looks at Boddynock and shrugs. "We are still below normal temperature, right?"

Lorenzo shrugs and rolls his shoulders.

"Ogres are not good business, no. But if I had to choose a place to face them, a narrow cave entrance is probably it. If were lucky, we can keep them hemmed in and face them one at a time. I could take point, and focus on defense while you all try and take them down."

OOC: Lorenzo's plan is something along the lines of standing in the entrance with Shield of Faith up and just using the 'Dodge' action over and over again. :)

Corilo tried to recall as much details as he could of what he had seen ahead. A narrow corridor, a relatively small cave, no exits in sight. Lorenzo was right. Corilo nodded."The battlefield might favor us. Big loafing brutes like that are going to trip all over the place. If we can take them by surprise, we're golden."

Brue said nothing. Her greatsword already lay in her hand. She nodded to Lorenzo to indicate agreeability with his plan that he stand in the entryway, then started edging slowly but surely toward the position she'd picked out for herself. Brue figured she'd lie in wait with her back against the outside cliff wall adjacent to the entrance--she'd make a nasty surprise for an unsuspecting ogre.

Nodding at the others, Lorenzo proceeds with his intended plan. He leans his chins down to his chest for a moment and runs a hand over his patron's symbol.

"Lady, smile on me this day."

Then, buoyed by his faith, he steps forward to the cave entrance drawing his blade and calling out, prepared to fend off any attackers.

"Excuse me, we want to ask you some questions."
OOC: Casting Shield of Faith (Concentration, up to 10 minutes)

Move to cave entrance
Dodge action
AC: 21
HP: 27/27

Gnorth, seeing the others getting into place, launches forward to get a view into the cave, all the while rattling a ditty on his drum. As he looks into the cave, He can see the cruel, beady eyes of the ogres inside. Before he could contemplate the wisdom of his actions, Gnorth's impulsive nature took over.

"Hello, Ogres. I have special delivery for you, just! Boom!" As he yells boom, he slams his hand down on the drum, which resonates with a much louder sound than one would anticipate from the instrument. The sound echoed with even greater fervor in the cave, shattering stone and flesh alike.

As the dust settles, Gnorth is smiling. It's great to be a part of a team.

OOC: Move Action: Up to k12. Standard Action: Cast Shatter as a level 2 spell, causing 3d8 points of thunder to all the ogres within a 10 foot radius sphere of the Northwest Corner of F5 (Con Save DC 13 for half) (Oh. I did NOT think about the con save). [roll0]
