Wasn't this one of a whole series of ads designed to compare D&D to computer gaming?
I seem to remember seeing others in Computer Games magazine that made similar boasts and analogies. As I recall one tag was, "We invented levels."

I think the argument was that they were actually supermodels and objected to being depicted as a red-eyed, somewhat disheveled gamer.
