D&D General D&D Art across the editions

The 1e Easley PHB is still my favorite. And not just nostalgia. (I had actually been playing years before it came out). I just think it’s best. I loathed the 3e covers. No action or scenes at all.
My all time favorite though is the Otis basic set. That’s what D&D was. A warrior and mage fighting a dragon.

I was surprised it only had 3 full spread images, including the cover!

The 1e and 2e covers are definitely “side of a van” material, which is what dnd should strive to be.

The original 2e art is miles better than the 2e black cover reprint interior art. Seriously, that was garbage. Worst art in any D&D project IMO

Your welcome. I was surprised that so little of the work was from what I consider the big 4 (Elmore, Easley, Caldwell, & Parkinson)

Me too! It is one of the reasons I skipped that edition.
