D&D CHess set...getting it?

Pretty simple. Are you planning on getting the D&D Chess Set?

I'd like to get it, but with the number of people around with which to play chess (read: 0) I don't think I shall get a set for myself.

OTOH, I might. It would look purty in my curio cabinet at home...

No. When I want to play chess, I use a classic chess set. When I want to play D&D, I play D&D. Plus, the price's way beyond the satisfaction I would get from it.

It's sort of tempting... if it were like the price of a decent chess set...

But for that price, no thanks... I'll buy enough themed miniatures to just place on my own chess set.

For $200? No.

Agreed. The problem isn't just that though...when you play Chess you want the standard set. If the pieces are all funky then you can't tell what is going on on the board....so I'd be paying $200 for a chess set that would simply be for looks and not function.

I can think of some other cool dragon stuff that I'd rather have for $200....

This is one of those products where (IMO) you would buy to have as a showpiece rather than something you'd actually use. Since the pieces look so much alike, I think it would be confusing to actually play chess with it (although I'm sure with time you'd get used to it).

I will not be buying it (unless I win the lottery sometime soon) as I'd rather spend the money on other things.

$149 for a chess set? heck no! and I play chess!

(and loose, frequently, ask me about the "beat Agent Oracle at chess today" program!)

I did think this was vaguely funny though:

Model: TSR 95790

heh, 'cause TSR was the company that used to make D&D...

You didn't hear? TSR bought out WotC and they're planning on re-releasing AD&D 2nd Edition.

Kidding..kidding...

TSR is just part of the tracking/model number used by my distributor. I don't bother to change it 'cause it's easier to order that way. No big mystery to it.
