Got it, well got two for two different covers. A brief intro to the main group and an intro to the upcoming Darksun comic. Not bad for a buck. Looking forward to next month.

I am curious though about how close if at all the comic will reflect the rules and feel like a D&D comic. Some of the novels you can actually hear the dice rolling, others are way out there with the only connection to D&D being the logo on the cover.

I ask this because
that black dragon went down amazingly quickly.
Still I think it'll be enjoyable. Certainly the price is right. I'm not all that big in to collecting comics aside from Astro City, but I can see making a point of getting this. Hopefully the writing is good. We'll see soon enough.

I don't normally buy comic books - anyone know where I can order this online? A quick look at amazon.ca didn't pull anything up.

Edit
Hey Paizo's got it. Should have looked there first.

Saw it at Midtown Comics Manhattan today.

To tell you the honest truth. It didn't look like it was moving aplenty. And there was no one 'gushing' over it either.

And no...I didn't touch it either.

For a buck, it was ok. It felt a bit cliched, though with the short page count, I'd guess I'd have to.

That's the problem with comics as a medium for storytelling. The page count is so limited, it's hard to get good pacing. Some of the greats are able to work with it, but most of the time the plots are a bit disjointed, cliched and rushed.

Mind you, that's never stopped me from loving the hell out of my DC, but it is a weakness.

I suspect that's my big problem. The two comic book series I've read in any detail were Watchmen and Preacher. I've read a few fan service ones like the Firefly or Babylon 5 spinoffs, but those are immemorable enough that I really don't recall much about them. But really I think I'm probably setting my expectations way too high.

Nothing like starting with the best to screw up your standards. If you want some good further reading, check out V for Vendetta (better than the movie, and that's saying something), Transmetropolotan (A personal favorite), Y The Last Man, and of course Sandman.

For the super-hero bent, I'd recommend Kingdom Come. The artwork is worth it, even if you hate the story. I love the story, but that's beside the point, I'm biased. Planet Hulk was also surprisingly good.

I liked it; the stories were short, but they were just there to setup the D&D ongoing & the Dark Sun mini-series. Especially since it was just a $1.
