D&D hits Soapland

Keep us posted, Yraen. I bet there is more to this than what has already been shown. I mean, Neighbours has been around for ages and I expect them to keep going, so they need all fodder they can get. As you know there is endless fodder in D&D. In my imagination Kylie Minogue makes a mean Lidda. -Sorry, where did that come from?

At least it wasn't portrayed in a really bad light like some shows have done. I remember one in the Eighties which used the old "D&Ders are so messed up they'll kill themselves if their character dies" ploy. In - ahem! - Neighbours, it seemed almost like a filler scene.

It's part of a story-arc for the character. It started a few weeks back, when he was building up high-level online game characters to sell via e-bay or somesuch. That's when they did the "You're in a cult and about to kill yourself" concern from Harold.

Look - it's on when I have my evening meal and the Missus likes it. But - yeah - I'm a bit embarrassed now that you mention it - about watching Neighbours, not the fact that it showed people playing D&D :D

Step away from the T.V. now, sir. Put down the remote! Do not make us hurt you. This is for your own good.
Isn't it sad . . . it sounds like you feel you MUST watch T.V. while eating dinner. I'm not really picking on you or making fun of you (much), but I am making commentary on modern Western Civilization (particularly America, but apparently Austrailia also). If the idiot box is not on then "there's nothing to do" for many of us. If you can't have casual conversation at the office about last night's hit T.V. show then you're a weirdo with no grasp of reality.

Anyhow, yeah, it is cool to see DnD portrayed in popular culture without the huge negativity often associated with it.

*snort*

What, you expect us to, like, TALK to one another?!?! ;)

I'll admit to watching a bit of mindless 'tube when eating dinner with the wife. It's kind of a fun shared activity we've picked up, we get to unwind after a hard day and not exert an ounce of brainpower other than what it takes to ridicule others. We'll watch a little Fear Factor, King of the Hill, Comedy Central comics, etc.

Her and my T.V. viewing throughout the rest of the week has NOTHING in common. She's a "reality TV" woman, and I'm more of a "give me witty repartée" kind of guy.
