D&D, I Renew My Vows to Thee

Disclamer: This not only a tasteless mock of "farewell" threads but also, I'm sad to say, a gross caricature of honest feelings :)

As this is a public forum for individual expression, I wish to gush about my love and support for the current edition of the World's Most Popular Roleplaying Game. Don't try to dissuade me, this is my opinion and it being rather intangible, cannot be taken from me. So, nyah! :p

The game continues to evolve right along with my gaming tastes. You can tell that the designers really had the avant garde gamer in mind. Not content to wallow in stagnation and complacent mediocrity, this game has been re-designed from the ground up while still managing to stay true to the spirit of the original. Bravo!

I admit, at first I was scared. Change IS scary. Just look at werewolves! My fears were unfounded. The D&D team came through and delivered on their promises of polyhedral gaming goodness. My game group has been revitalized. They love the new game just as much as myself. So much so, that they now schedule game sessions before I even have a chance to put the word out.

I am happy with with the new edition, I'm happy to have support, I'm happy to be playing a fun game with friends again. Happy, happy, happy! Joy, joy, joy!

Addendum: I'm also glad they re-vitalized the Forgotten Realms, a campaign world near and dear to my heart as my first which was, unfortunately, Forgotten by me through the previous edition due to unseemly glut. It lost weight, got a makeover, and it's looking great!

I gotta echo the OP and say I'm surprised at how easily I fell in love with 4e. I'd heard about it late last year and into this year, and had no interest in getting back to D&D. As the release date neared, I didn't care.

Then, the quickstart adventure came out and I knew I had a weekend coming up where my group and I wanted to get some gaming on. So I thought, why not? and tried out the quickstart.

It sucked me into 4e. I'm running a great 4e campaign now, and if someone had told me in May that I'd be doing so I'd have laughed.

Kudos to the design team of the quickstart for providing just enough of a hook to get me and my group into the game full-bore.

Here, here! I've renewed my vows, finally adopted her kids, and now I even do her laundry. It's a labor of love, cause while she is lady on the street, she is a freak in the (dice) sack.

D&D, enclosed you will find this pre-nuptial agreement. In event of divorce it assures me half of all the dice and character sheets, I'll get to keep the displacer beast, and you can have the dragonborn.

Great OP.

I thought I would hate it. Really. I'm very "old fashioned" when it comes to D&D (see my sigs). I teetered on the fence for months and months-hating this tidbit, liking that tidbit.

At the last moment I cancelled my pre-order, but then got a Gift Cert and picked them up and really am glad I did. It's not perfect, and it's certainly made some very substantial changes to the "fundamentals" of D&D, but in several ways it feels alot like the LBBs or B/X D&D to me e.g. some things don't make a whole lot of sense, but work well when it's table time, and for me that is far better than things that make more sense but are a PITA to adjudicate/run at the table.

I just wish there was some more 3rd party support available... RIGHT NOW  :D

Ditto'ed.

I got the books, sat down and made a Dragonborn Fighter. I thought, "wow, this guy would be a lot of fun to play! I could even drop a feat or two into social skills and he'd be a decent faceman. No more of the "strong silent type".

Then I made a Warlock. I thought, "damn, this looks like a lot of fun too!"

Then I realized, now that spell lists are simplified, I really want to play a Wizzie too. Or maybe a cleric.

Finally, I realized that I really need to get a game going! ;-)

Good job Wizards!

I still don't see why there has to be D&D monogamy. Can't I play the field? Sure, the older women don't have anything that I haven't seen by now, but they can still teach the new girl a thing or two. I still have 1E and 2E's numbers in my little black book, and if I could find the players, I'd call them in a heartbeat.
